How to add funds to paypal to give a refund?

Need to refund someone for a lost package, haven't got any funds in Paypal as I took the money out when I sent the item. Need to add funds to refund them but Paypal seems to suggest that it will take 7-9 days to put the money in the account so that I can refund the buyer. Is there a quicker way? The buyer has waited long enough as I've been away for the last couple of weeks, don't think he's going to want to wait another couple of weeks.

Thanks!

Use a CC or DC and it should be quicker. Sounds like it's going to apply for a BT

About £150.

Ahhh yeah, I think if you use a credit card it would be much quicker. Or if you try to refund them and have a card connected to the account, it should give them an echeque.

I was hoping that it would come out of my bank account, via debit card. Can't see anywhere to choose which one though.

Don't think credit card is a good idea, would probably come out as cash.

On the refund page it says if there's not enough money it will take it from my back up source but it doesn't let me continue with it anyway.

Recorded would have only covered to the value of 100 x first class stamps, this value would need special delivery to cover the value:thumbsup:

Have you got a card set up on your account? I never have any money in my paypal, I just pay and it takes my money using my DC directly from my bank account.

If it doesn't let you, can't you just pay the money back (Send Funds) and write a note to say that its a refund?

Who said I didn't?

I sent it Parcelforce so getting the money back is fine, just need to refund as quick as possible. Don't want to do it as a seperate transaction as it could leave me open to being scammed.

I've got debit and credit cards set up as well as bank account. Can't understand why it won't let me add funds quickly.

you shouldn't need to add funds, just click the refund button on the original transaction and paypal will take the money from your bank if you have dd or debit card if no dd. the refund should be immediate for the original buyer

It won't let me, it says that I need to have that amount already in my account.

"Your refund must not exceed your available balance. If you have funds in another currency balance, you may want to consider transferring funds from other currency balances."

It won't let me go any further than that.

I have debit and credit card details on. The debit card set as primary. And a direct debit with my bank account. You'd think that would work.

I assume so, same account I've used for years and never had a problem. How do I check?

Its not strange and its been like that for as long as I can remember, you need to have exact money in your paypal account to be able to issue a refund, thing is Paypal does not want you to withdrawl money from either you credit card or Debit card unless you are making payment for an item which is always instantaneous. Its like you taking money from the cashpoint for free from your credit card which is what paypal does not want to help you acheive, same goes for when you make payment for an item using a credit card via paypal and the payment is refunded, I would think that the payment be left in my paypal account but no it goes straight back onto your CC.

What anyone could have done is this, I need cash but I do not want to take it out of my CC from the cash machine, so I make a payment to a friend via paypal and then, he refund the money to me, and then i transfer the money into my bank account.

Yep this is PayPoo for ya. I had the exact same problem a few years back.
If you trust the buyer do a normal payment (with fees on top) and hope they don't try to pull a item not arrived, as it would take ages to explain to the paypal monkeys that you did a refund that was not linked to the original transaction.

Thanks for the advice guys, I guess Paypal don't want to pay a fee for taking money from my debit card (didn't think there was a charge for debit cards but I guess there is). I think I'll sell some more stuff and use that money to refund.

Thanks!

Better still, I think I'm going to give a friend the money and then ask him to pay it to me, then I'll refund the buyer and refund my friend once I've sold some more stuff. Then get my money back from my friend.
