How to book a flight to Portugal??

My friend wants to borrow my laptop and my "expertise" on it to book some flights today. I've never booked a flight on-line and wouldn't know where to get the best prices. Any advice greatly appreciated.

He needs a flight in September to Portugal, that's all I know.

Any ideas what web-sirts I should be trying?

Thanks!

I use these (in order of preference):-

http://www.skyscanner.net/

http://www.weefly.com/web/flight-search-engine

http://www.kayak.co.uk/?showflex=y

http://flightchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/

followed by the airlines themselves

http://book.flythomascook.com/skylights/cgi-bin/skylights.cgi

http://www.xl.com/

http://www.thomsonfly.com/en/index.html

http://www.flymonarch.com/

I try to avoid the budget airlines like ryanair & easyjet as in my experience they are useless. others will have different experiences of course.

csi, as usual you're the man!!!

I have no idea what airports but I'm sure looking at those sites we'll get some good prices.

Thankyou.

rather than check all the different flight operators individually, just use www.moneysupermarket.com to compare the costs then go that airline direct, you'll always get a few extra quid off direct (maybe quidco too)

I think Ryanair is THE BEST if you play the game. Dont get sucked into extras unless you want to pay as much as other airlines. I have been using them at least a dozen times each year for about three years. Tried various others but when it costs £5 all in and you board first, its got to be good!!!!! Very punctual also, I do a drop off and collection service and always happy if its Ryanair as I know they won't be late in/out..

Moneysupermarket does not compare all airlines in the same way that confused.com does not cover all insurance sites. Same goes for the other robot search sites I mentioned.

Always best to use the 4 top ones I previously listed so that all bases are covered.

Got a flight last week from LGW to Malaga for £96 all in with meals at convenient flight times for the end of June.

Now if only I could find a decent villa search site rather than having to browse 10 of them ;-)

I didnt know they were of the same breed (but obviously better) learn something new everyday, repped

(rep will be recinded if I'm forced to splash out on a flight deal too good to pass up  )

Don't be put off by a minorities views about Ryanair and Easyjet...

They will save you a packet...

No doubt your using the internet to save money...

Both these airlines use modern new aircraft which use less fuel...

Easyjet still hasn't added any fuel surcharges to it's flights...

Try travelsupermarket to search...

Then go direct and don't use the links to the carrier which is cheapest...

Avoid the last flight to any destination...

These will have the greatest delay passed to them from previous flights, if any...
