A friend of my husbands took our faulty PC for the night, He said everything is working apart from the motherboard,

Can you tell me how to find out which type of motherboard we need please?

I said that to husband, but the guy said to just check on the Tescos website the motherboard it comes with! But the tower is about 16-18 months old and now discontinued, I was shocked too that I wasnt given a model to look for, to just check on Ebay for a Acer motherboard
But there is loads of different ones!

oh i see.....bit of nightmare

suppose all you can do is google the model of the tower and try and narrow it down, if you cnt get it to work

Just googled Acer M3641,

Its brought up a few motherboard problems with this same number, but put this number into Ebay and EBuyer with no luck lol I may have to ask husbnd to nag his friend by text to find me one to buy!

Ask the guy what CPU's init (if you don't know) and then just buy a compatible mobo.

Easy to find one once me know what cpu you have. Be about £30 sounds like the guy knows nothing though and just made it up.

He was good enough to check it over for us for free, as he works with my hubby, I think he does, but maybe didnt realise how little me and hubby knows about PCs!

Once i get the tower back I will see what CPU we have and go from there,
thanks all for your help x

I would still take it back to tesco. It should last longer than 18 months . remove as much dust as you can from fans / case before trying to take back

Ooh yes thats the one, This is the 3rd problem we have had with it since the warranty ended! Is the motherboard a manufacturers fault or just a basic PC fault, I have been told by tescos because its out of 12 month warranty if I can find receipt and they prove its a manufactor fault then I may get some compensation back, either to buy another PC or the repair costs?

I do feel should I just take it back and paddy in the shop see where it gets me :whistling: lol

Socket 775, I looked on ebay and the board looks the same as ours, but they are all branded, asus, packard bell. Do I definatly need an acer, or at the all universal?

Take the case off the machine, you will a main circuit board inside with the rest of the components plugged in to it. This will be the mother board, look for any model numbers printed on it.

Search for those on Google and see if it comes up with a motherboard

I'd try that tbh.

I may do if this doesnt work, Shame they dont seem to stock towers no more in store though.

Thank you, Hoping when I get PC tower back at 4 I can do a bit more :)

You won't be able to get the same motherboard, OEM boards are almost impossible to track down and not worth the price if you find one anyway. I'd go throw up a fit in Tesco.

Thats not a good thing! :( as I dont want to spend daft amounts doing this one up, would rather get new.
I will hunt high and low for receipt and see where I get with tescos :)

What was the fault, Unless he has equipment to test the motherboard it could be a software fault or virus etc

not 100%, I will get hubby to text him tonight, I do kind of feel im paying more money into something that seems dead, but then again what do I know :)

Hopefully I can find more out when they finish work tonight, but hate feeling like im nagging when he checked it over for nothing in his own time out of good will

Yeah that will work fine.

Thank you,

Just hope it does work now :) He has said he will fit it for us too, so luckily I dont have to worry about that.

I'd probably buy a G41 (x4500) based board for a few £ more if not using an external graphics card.

HERE or HERE.

Yes did notice but thought would give options from Amazon. Just like you said earlier will be worth the extra. It wont have been picked/dispatched yet so they could change their mind.
