Click start the Run and paste this line into it

c:\Windows\setuperr.log

Then OK

You'll see a blank NotePad page, but look at the bottom blue line for date.

Windows has an option called System Information.

If you run this you get all sorts of details about the computer.

One of them will be the BIOS date. While not a totally accurate measure of a laptops age, if you bought the laptop new then it will probably be just after the BIOS date (give or take).

If you cant find a more accurate date it will be near enough.

I tried this under Vista and got the blank notepad page, but no date anywhere.

Nothing on the notepad at all...

How do i get to system information?

If that does not work:

Click My Computer then C drive, look for Windows folder, right click and choose Properties, and you'll see the date Windows was installed. It doesn't give date of computer manufacture, but can't be far off.

unless you reinstalled vista

press start
in the box at the bottom type cmd ( to open a dos prompt )
in the dos window type systeminfo

the install date is in the information

System Information is one of the options on the Windows menus.

Or if you are on Vista just type System Information in the search box at the bottom of the main Windows menu, and when it appears in the list of "found" options in the main menu (under Programs), just click on it to select it and the System Information windows opens.
