Following on from this thread
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/692689/anyone-any-good-with-laptops?
I've decided to go with the dell.
I'm just wondering whether anyone has any tips for getting more money off?

I've noticed alot of people mention that when they get their dell laptop, they threaten to return it and dell can give you a further discount.... how does that work?

Thanks in advance everyone! :)

I've found if you call them and ask they have done deals from what I've read on here. I've only ever dealt with them from a business perspective and they are very open for negotiation.

The almost blackmailing that you're talking about doesn't sit right with me.

well, yes they can offer to give you a discount for not sending the machine back
I found out this by accident, I ordered a slim unit, and the next day phoned up to ask if i could change to a standard unit (it was ordered on the net, it wasnt even in production yet) but even then, they couldnt change it, said the only way was to wait for it to be made and delivered and then return, but if i sign for and keep the unit they would give me 50 quid and a 5 year warranty

as i said, i wasnt trying for a discount, I ordered and next day had second thoughts on the slimline. so i phoned up next day, and he offered me this deal, which was so good, (the 5 year next day on site business warranty must be worth a fortune) i just had to take it, the order was only a 400 quid base unit anyway (from business section)

another way that works is this, find on the dell site exactly what you want, and make a note of the model number
phone up the sales line, say you are interested in that model, and ask a basic question or two from the salesperson, after that say thank you and you are just about to press the button to buy online, then the salesman will comeback with a sweetener to make the sale over the phone (so he gets credit for the sale)

damnit. got impatient and decided to order already! so that might be out the window.....
Will call up again tomorrow and try and change my order and see if they offer me a sweetener. but what could i say i want to change? hmmmm............
I don't want them to just change it and thats that! would really like some extra warranty....
