I'm not sure if this will help anybody or if it has been posted before but here goes:- :)

Every year I get a new Mobile contract. For the last four years it has been with 3 Network. You cannot 'port' an existing '3' number back to '3' so I get a PAC (Porting authorization Code) from 3 and transfer that to a PAYG O2 Sim. After two days I get the PAC from O2 and port it to 3 network.
A bit of messing about you may think but I get a new and better 3 contract every year and I keep the same number I have had for five years.
I'm not sure if this will work with other companies but I don't see why not.

Sorry for the long post

does it work actually?

i have the same thoughts, but i have called O2, they say you can't port a PAYG less than 90days of the inital port from 3 say.

i am not sure about other network. can you or anyone please confirm that this trick works?

YES it does work. I did it on one of my contracts 10 days ago.
I have the PAC letter from three with the expiry date on it, I have the receipt from Tesco for the First Credit on the O2 Sim card and The letter from O2 telling me the PAC for that Sim. The whole thing took under 14 days.
I ported the number to O2 online but I had to get the PAC by calling O2.
I can provide proof of the letters if you PM me. :x

It works, I've done the same but with Virgin.

that's great. i am not questioning you. just want to know is it actually work. because the networks could impose some restrictions to stop people like us doing this clever trick.

it's good to know it's working. cheers.

I cannot see the networks complaining because you have to 'buy' a Sim card and put credit on it.
