Without sounding tongue in cheek i did hear on the radio the other day however cold it is outside it's much healthier to open a window slightly. This will also help to stop the bug spreading. Good luck

38.5 isn't that high, I wouldn't worry yet.

If it goes higher wash down using a flanel dipped in LUKE WARM water, not cold.

Give it a little longer but if still worried, called NHS Direct or local on call GP service and talk to a nurse for advice. Hope he gets better soon.

The tablets won't even be in his sytem yet so give it time. 38.5 is just a normal fever. Open the window.

No worries it was on radio Cambridgeshire telling you what to do if a member of the family gets a christmas time bug but as it wasn't relevant to me i didn't actually take it all in but i do remember the opening the window bit :)

Ice pack not a good idea, can cause the body to react by heating up more. Open window, cool drinks and luke warm flannel. Don't panic, his fever isn't that high and would only be a concern in elderly people or young children.

PS its better to stagger paracetamol and ibuprofen, so that you give one dose every 3 hours. (paracetamol now then ibuprofen in 3 hours and so on).

I just don't want him hallucinating he does that when he has a high temp and it scares the crap out of me lol its always the middle of the night!

He's lucky to have someone as caring as you, looking after him. Hope he appreciates it when he gets better. If he does get worse, just call the doctor out. Better to be safe than sorry.

im picking up Tamiflu for him tomorrow

Whatever you do, don't give him or anyone Tamiflu, its side effects are worse than Swine Flu itself, seriously.
Just pick up a packet of Beechams instead.

Yeah i have been worrying about this but i couldn't live with myself if he developed pneumonia or some other complication, he will have to deal with sickness and the poops for a couple of days, to be fair my nan had tamiflu and had no side effects at all luckily

Complete tosh. But your decision whether you take Tamiflu or not. Diagnosis of swine flu is all an educated guess.

But make sure you are giving him x2 500mg paracetamol tablets = 1 gram. That is the normal adult dose (many people only take 1).

Beechams contains only 300mg of paracetamol and lots of nice flavourings...and of course is hot. You could do the same a lot cheaper

Yep im giving him 2 x 500mg tablets and I agree we don't use beechams or similar drinks, we take the paracetamol tablets, drinks and a nose spray for the blocked nose and ibuprfen for aching muscles and to help bring the temp down, just wanted to make sure i was doing it all ok :)

It's not "Complete tosh", Google "Tamiflu side effects" to find out.
This is just a bad flu going around, i had it over the Christmas period and all my family had it. Beechams made me feel better, Paracetamol's usually don't, so it was just a recommendation.

you got to remember we all react different to different medicines and illness's.

My mom gets a cold and beechams does **** all except make her feel sick and do the opposite to what it should.

Me i drink beechams every few hours and i'm healthy again in a day or two... Its just how people are.

If someone said o paracetamol is bad, no one would take it, so don't risk's someones health by telling them no to tamiflu and telling them to take flavoured warm water.

You cannot distinguish between normal and swine flu, unless you are tested for it which only happens if you become very ill and are admitted to hospital. Other than that the treatments are the same anyway. If it is a common cold you will be poorly but generally up and about. If it is flu - you will be in bed.

There is no need for drastic measures to reduce temperature in adults. When you have a high temeperature, you feel hot to others but you are freezing and feel rotten, not helpful to suggest going out into the snow.
