how about a milky coffee, i dont drink tea or coffee but when im at work i make a milky coffee in the microwave just to dip custard creams in lol and its very nice.

theres a certain way you need to do it.

boil kettle
add milk to cup first
Kenco Smooth coffee next (dont use Nescafe or you'll never get a nice cuppa)
Sugar if required

Stir around - wait for kettle to boil, and add water. Stir in clockwise direction. Taste

I really can't stand people who add milk BEFORE the boiled water, especially if it's instant coffee. Aside from the physics involved, the granules will never dissolve properly, and once the boiled water is added - they'll simply float to the top whereupon you'll be forced to stir like crazy to get them to dissolve properly.

If you HAVE to use instant, then use as normal (and I say normal as that's how it's supposed to be made; with boiled water first), but instead of using cold milk - try heating the milk first and then using an electric whisk to create frothy milk. Simply add to stirred coffee and you'll have a nice brew.

Alternatively, you could always buy the beans and a grinder and use a coffee press (following the instructions of course) for a more refined coffee. I've found that by adding different syrups (no we're not talking Tate & Lyle!), such as hazelnut or vanilla makes a hell of a lot of difference. A shot of this in a latte is pretty much amazing, and I'm mainly a tea drinker. You can pick up a decent coffee press (holds 8 cups) for around £15 in most places, and a coffee grinder / mill will set you back around the same amount. It all depends on how far you're willing to go. Obviously once you've purchased these all you'll ever need to do is buy the beans which is about on par with the granules - except for a much better taste.

Out of all the coffee chains I've found that Nero is not all that to be honest. I'm not sure where their coffee is from but it was really strong. Personally found that Costa are pretty much decent, and Starbucks as a second. BUT... if you can find an independant coffee maker (I used to work near a sandwich shop which had a Lavazza machine), I was literally paying half the price Costa / Starbucks / Nero charge for the same product.

i agree with milk in first, i never have a problem with the granules not dissolving and both my oh and mum says the coffee tastes almost like its burnt as the hot water scolds the coffee if milk isnt in first. sounds stupid but for some reason holding the kettle higher when you pour seems to make it taste different, it creates abit of a froth. and invest in a better coffee, dowe egberts is my mums fave, and its often on offer somewhere

Yes i really like strong coffee hence my preference for nero. If i have espresso at home or work i always have 2 heaped spoonfulls in a mug. Probably not that healthy but great for keeping awake when working nights :)
