You select the part of the song you want and change the extension to m4r.

Take a look here this is the one i use,
Download and install.

http://www.iringer.net/

Load any mp3 in and cut where ever you like, You can even fade in and out.
When your done it adds the ringtone into a folder in itunes for you. All you do then is sync your ipod go to settings and select the ringtone and off ya pop :thumbsup:

iTunes will make them for you too, but it's got to be with music you've bought from them in the first place :(
