Wouldn't it be easier just to remove the adware?

String them up in the garden to use as bird scarers.

OR...use the one that says 'Recovery Disk' to reset your netbook. Hopefully you will save all your important work before starting!

I don't get that one either!

if its the same as most laptops / netbooks (if it is windows not linux) then after you have turned it on and are at the loading screen, if you keep pressing either F7, F8, F9, F10 or F11 (sorry cant narrow it down as it depends on the manufacturer) then it should make a really annoying beeping sound, this is that start process of the reformatting but you will have to do a little bit of it manually. Hope this helps mate

If you'd use'd anti-virus maybe you wouldn't have the problem now.

If you really don't like anti-virus maybe you should be using linux (iptables will look after you!)

Put the restore disk in an external drive and restore your machine or download fedora 11 and install that instead!

If you have a PC then you can copy the disc over onto a media card or USB pen drive. It is a good idea to buy an external DVD/CD ROM.

Sorry - you confused me by originally saying that you had some disks with it.

gR8 why don't you like anti - virus .......... its an essential tool when using the internet

also you only have malware..... install superantispyware / ccleaner to remove it

takes 30 mins from your time to install some essential apps to protect your laptop

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html - avast anti virus - FREE
http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ - comodo firewall - free
http://www.ccleaner.com/ - ccleaner - free
http://www.superantispyware.com/ - superanti spyware - free

using them tools will protect you online .... by not protecting yourself your leaving your laptop open to vuilnerabilities including malware... not all will be malicious but some will steal bank / cvard details / personal information or just break your laptop

for the price of well £0 you can protect yourself online ..... its suicide not to...

many of the cheaper netbooks like the eee, the medions don't come with cd drives... but come with recovery cd's

to use the cd's you will need to use an external cd drive (you can use the xbox360 hd -dvd drive) or transfer the cd's content to a usb pen

sorry but i dont know about any netbook which comes with a drive

The Medion Netbook comes with a hidden recovery partition

I think the Medion can be restored to factory installation by pressing F3 during boot (and then following the on-screen instructions).

The manual can be downloaded from the support section from this website.

yeh the F3 will start the recovery process. I knew about the recover partition but I didnt know how to start it
#22
Really? I beg to differ. You may get a bundle deal with a USB one, but the Samsung Netbooks I looked at never had any DVD drives in them. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YT7ZXxkDbRc

ohhh im sure i read that they did ... oh well!

gr8 i don't see why you need to "refresh" your laptop..... just download the apps i linked too and it will clean your pc and secure you when online
#26
No matter, he's found the answer he was looking for.

The apps you linked to are very good, use them myself. :) On my netbook, I personally use Clamwin Anti-virus (free/opensource) though as it uses way less resources. Found AVG and Anti-vir had an effect on boot up speed and overall performance (The Atom is only a single core 1.6 after all).

Most malware & spyware and adware are NOT viruses and an anti virus program will probably NOT pick them up. Some AV tools search for spyware, some dont.

You need a specific anti malware / spyware product like Malwarebytes.

Microsoft provide Defender but I have no idea if it is any good or not because it has never actually found anything (that I am aware of).
#28
I also use Spybot with Immunize to cover the Spyware issue. Immunize blocks all the common spyware sites (pop-ups..etc). My only issue with Windows Defender is that it has a habit of thrashing your disk when you dont want it to, but it does its job. Its on my proper machines but not my netbook.

You are correct, a lot spyware will not be found by Anti-virus software.
