How to set up Virgin Wireless (netgear)

Can anyone help me please?

I just purchased a wireless router from user disco (thank you). I have opened up the box to find theres no instructions (not discos fault btw as it was sealed, so virgin dont give instructions!!)

Im a bit lost as to what I need to do. My net cable is plugged into my laptop at the moment.... so obviously that must go into the yellow internet port of the router, and i'll need to plug in the adaptor for power.... then what... is that it?

I just know it cant be that easy lol so waiting for the technical bits now.... sorry for not having a clue here lol but I am trying :)

Rep added for any help x

There should be a wizard disc with it, you just put it in the drive and it takes you through it.

The set up cd should help you through the installation, I believe though the black box (modem) has a network cable that you have to plug into the yellow port in the netgear router and then it's ready for wireless, If you wanted a wired connection you'd need to plug an ethernet cable from the netgear to your laptop etc.

if it was sealed then there should be a full user guide including quick setup guide and a CD.

Put the CD in before you attach anything and it will show you what to do and walk you through it.

If you have to use the Virgin set up disc, beware as I have found that it is hard to use the laptop on another router.

hmmm there definitely 'should' be a disk.:?

You need to turn off your cable modem, then connect the yellow cable to the cable modem and the other end to the router.

Then to set it up it's easier if you use the other ethernet cable to start off with, plug one end into any spare port on the router and the other into your laptop, your laptop should get an IP address at this point.

In your browser type: http:\\192.168.0.1

which should connect you to the router.

Username is admin and password is just blank

on left hand side of the menu that comes up next select 'wireless setup' then manual wireless connection setup

WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS

wireless network name: use what ever you like

WIRELESS SECURITY MODE

Security mode: enable WPA/WPA2 wireless security (enhanced)

WPA/WPA2:

cipher type: AES

PSK/EAP: PSK

network key: use what ever you like (dont forget it though!)

SAVE SETTINGS

back to left hand side and log out and then pull the power out the router. Disconnect the ethernet cable from your laptop and powerup the router again. When it's ready you should be able to search for wireless networks on your laptop and find the one you just created, select this and enter the network key you put in above and that should be it :-)

Yellow cable linking the two routers together.
White with blue end i use for attaching to main pc,
Black leads are the two power cables,
White with green end, the virgin inlet cable (if you know what i mean, the one that comes out of the wall

Yes she has got cable broadband, it's a Virgin Media Broadband Modem in the photo and it's connected correctly :-)

Use your main PC that's connected via the cable to setup the wireless router as per my instructions above and all should work fine.

If you have a white box and no black box it's because you've got Virgin ADSL Broadband, a black box is a cable modem.

Did i call them both routers
