Shoot them.

If you catch a cat doing its business, return it to its owner with one of these:

Alternatively, have a look at this site which offers various products:

A motion-sensitive MG42 nest overlooking the lawn

Just watch out for any neighbours.

try orange and lemon peel, when you have the peel, bruise it with say a rolling pin to release the zesty scent and pop it out into your garden, worked for me when i had a similar problem, try the pepper too, anything that has a strong scent should shoo em off.

on a serious note i tried everything to get rid of them doing this on my lawn, my neighbour has a fair few cats so my garden was more cat shat than lawn and nothing stopped them until i purchased one of the electronic cat things, it stopped them straight away and had it working for a long time, it no longer works and hasnt done for a year or two but the cats have never returned to dump in my garden and cats are still about

I had to mesh all across my soil to stop the damn neighbours cat's ******** in my soil, every day it would stink of cat ****. I knew who's cats they were, so tempted to pick it all up and dump it on their door step but spoke to police and they said it would be seen as harassment :x

I've just found somebody has been letting their dog, poo on the grass on the side of my house....so i've put a sign up saying " if i find one more dog turd on my grass, it will be put through your letterbox" i know exactly who it is, and i will stick to my word :) As for cats, really don't know, but i did hear about pepper.

There was an old woman who swallowed a cow,
I don't know HOW she swallowed a cow!
She swallowed the cow to get the dog,
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
She swallowed a spider to catch the fly
I don't know why she swallowed a fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

I tried pepper / gel / powder and none of these made a difference. I gave up and will start the search again when I start venturing back in the garden.
This will be my next plan of action http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Big-Cheese-Cat-Repeller/dp/B000NR8Q1U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=garden&qid=1232554567&sr=8-1

Anything they can see themselves in is supposed to scare them away too, like shiny cd disks, mirrors etc
#32
Me, I'd find out whose cats they are, and send the owner a letter explaining the damage their animals are causing to your property, and the compensation you want them to give you so that you can safeguard your garden from them. Tracking the owners will be easy - just lock the cats in your garage for a week, and wait for the Lost posters to crop up.

By the way, it is my own stupid cat using the back garden as his toilet. Does he not know, not to sh*t on your own doorstep!

they are all over the place in the garden

Cats dont like vinegar so that is one option.

Another option that apparently works is if you go to your local zoo and get some lion poo and leave it somewhere in the garden then the cats wont come near as they will know something bigger is hanging around. Seriously. Although then you have poo in your garden anyway.

amonia works but be careful with your grass
