How to stop children deleting browser history

Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop my elder children deleting the browser history.
I have tried the Regedit but that didnt work and looked through the tools/options but no luck
I use to have K9 web protect but that no longer seems to work on my laptop which runs Windows 7

Punish them if the continue to disobey you would seem a sensible thing to do

If they insists on deleting the history ban them from the laptop

They dont now delete the full history just individual web pages by right clicking & delete

Put a keystroke logger on the laptop.

Used to be that with some prodding in Index.dat (if you're using IE) would give you history. Don't know if this is still an issue with Win7/IE8 mind.

You could use something like a proxy (Squid), it will take a bit of research:

http://www.squid-cache.org/

Any more than that, will depend on Group policy settings. I don't know if it is possible to hack the registry to this end * - anyone ?

( * and wouldn't advise it)

Its not anything pornographic its just my eldest daughter (13) spends ages on the computer and i would just like to know which websites/pages she is viewing
#6
why do you need to stop them from deleting it ? :)
#7
she has something to hide if shes deleting so i wouldnt let her on. Sounds harsh but shes 13.

Have you asked her?

I asked her and she replied "Nothing much"
She does all her homework & studies on the laptop so she is always on it
I dont want to come across as im spying & dont trust them but would like to know which websites she is on & can then block them if i find them not suitable

^^^ This

made a big booboo a couple of years ago when I found a tame porn site on the laptop and accused my oldest and he explained genuinely wasn't him, turned out to be me youngest :-/ Ive told them since if they delete the history i know they have something to hide and in which case i'll remove internet access...

When shes on it, just say, i need it really quick, then when they get off, have a look, then let them back on, when they say what was you looking at, just say i wanted to see if barca got fabregas yet or something...

Tell her the laptop has to be used in the lounge or somewhere with the most foot traffic

If it's like a game of cat and mouse with her it's time to either stop her using it or get it in the lounge where you can watch her. Really.

If you brought her up well, she won't be looking at things she shouldn't!
#17
Lmao, unplug the charger, hope she dosent notice, and when it runs out, YOU GOT IT! :D:D

God what is it about parents not allowing them to have privacy.

By all me put safe guards on a PC but if you are really that concerned dont allow them on the internet.

Kids will be kids and lads will sometimes look at porn its normal , only time i would be concerned with is who they are talking with , but if you educate your kids then they will be careful.

I have to be honest, if i had children, i would be nosy and want to know what they are going on, just so i know what stage they are at. ( It makes sense in my head. )

i understand your concern, i am the same , have you asked her why she is deleting her history ? my daughter ( fortunatly) doesnt know how to do this so i can keep track , but she only goes on sites i know anyway, ie club pengiun . msn. etc, , maybe ask her why she feels it neccessary to delete !

WHAT THE ???
i was waiting for some stupid comment to come along and wasnt disappointed
#27
Lighten up!
All I'm saying is what are you really worried that she's doing? Looking at porn? Being groomed? Buying cars on your Ebay account?
Is she a sensible 13 year old? If so, just trust her. If not, don't let her use the internet on her own.

How about a cunning plan - like you have had an email from the broadband people saying that you only have x amount of use left for the month and you have checked on the history so cannot understand why they are saying that. It's going to cost a whole lot and you might have to take it further/stop having broadband/ cannot stand the cost. You really can't understand it. Can she throw any light???
