HP Laptop - Retail Disk Vista install

Hi all,

Wonder if anyone can share their experience or knowledge.

I have an HP 6715b laptop which shipped with Vista Business 64bit. I have to do some Media Center development work and consequently have bought a Retail Vista Home Premium disk. The problem is, I run the install without problems, but on the first boot of the fresh install something hangs, and then the machine just reboots! I think it is something to do with missing non-standard drivers that HP slipstream on to their OEM O.S disks? I know the laptop hardware is all functioning as it should be and I know the disk is fine (test installed on a desktop without any problem), any one give me any pointers or advice?

(I have tried speaking to HP about it but they are useless and have taken forever to call back and then do nothing useful...)

cheers for any wisdom!

Sorry, dont want to make a stupid comment but i have heard of many people interrupting Vista before the install is complete because it take so long and because at times it acts like it is hanging,Are you letting the install take its course and with a laptop it is advisable to remove the battery to avoid electrical issues, sorry if im pointing out the obvious but i bet there are very few people going from Vista business to premium which makes finding a solution very hard

If you upgrade from Vista Business to Vista Ultimate (which is an in-place upgrade) then you will get the media centre with that as well.

That way you would have not needed to replace Vista Business, just install Ultimate on top.

Vista Ultimate includes everything.

you did remove the partition first?, if not try that, any retail version should go on even without the necessary drivers in situ, it should just need them installed later

but i know its not the dvd (tested installing on a desktop without problems), I cant expect Microsoft to create me a custom DVD to suit my seemingly awkward HP hardware...
