HTC Desire - Dropped :(

Dropped my HTC Desire onto Concrete.
Result = Smashed Digitizer.
Me = Gutted
Ebay = source of new Digitizer and tools
Out of pocket = £30 (inc free p&p)
effort = 30 mins after some digging on t'internet for tear-down instructions
Me = Happy bunny again.
For the unaware the digitzer is the bit that does the touchscreen stuff. The AMOLED screen itself and still worked, just with a spiders web in the top right hand corner. The damaged happened when i'd only had the phone about 2-3 weeks (back in June when cases were difficult to find ergo I didn't have one) but as it was still working I stuck with it. I kept checking eBay until I found a good price with tools and instructions were readily available. Some chap had done a lot of work photographing every step of the tear down and re-build. Meantime my Orange desire is unlocked, debranded and running Froyo.
Me = even happier bunny.
God I love the internet. :)

Should've gone to Specsavers.

Would've been better of with the Nokia 8800.

i have a desire with orange, how do you get froyo on it and debranded?

is it rooting the device thing? i assume this invalidates any warranty (if you get one..)

Do a search for unrevoked. Unrevoke 3 is the latest way to root and debrand.
Works fantastically well.

HD Video recording (720p), noticeably faster, ability to install apps on SD card instead of internal memory. Work for me.

Aparently it could well invalidate your warranty but I had to tear apart my phone removing the VOID stickers on the way so I wasn't midding out on anything by not rooting etc.
