HTC Desire: to screen protect, or not to protect?

I am due to get my HTC Desire soon and I am wondering whether I should get a screen protector for it. I have ordered one of these pouches to begin with:

But the main reason I am hesitating to get a screen protector is because I don't want to make the screen quality look bad and I don't want it to affect responsiveness of the screen. Also, I have heard some screen protectors are too relfective or are worse than the glass screen for dirt and finger prints.

If you can 100% vouch for a good screen protector then please provide a link.

our lass didn't bother with a screen protector. hasn't done hers any harm.

if it's anything like my hd2, you'll just not need one. tried to put one on my phone, it looked cack. plus screen is ultra tough so i'm not troubled.

my lass got a few mocks to put her phone in, such as these

I put 1 on mine the minute i got my phone, the touch screen is fantastic with it on, had no problems at all.

I use a screen protector on my desire, but really don't think it's necessary.

I'm just ultra paranoid about keeping my desire looking new lol

had my hd2 for knocking on for 5 months or so, pristine screen without protector. they really are very tough.

Wow didn't expect so many to be using their Desire without protectors. However, I must ask; do you use any other type of protection e.g. as ScrumpyPaul said that his lass uses a phone 'sock'.

yes protect it but not with that horrible thing in the first post

I'm open to suggestions for protectors. I'm more inclined to hear from board members rather than reviews from other sites. First hand experience is quite important.

Has anyone bought the official HTC screen protector?

got a pack of 6 off ebay myself, cost something like £2.99. used 2 of them so far, took the first one off after a couple of weeks to make sure it was working and the screen was like new. also using one of those gel wrap around cases which cost about the same

Nice case. Does it provide any protection from compression/impact e.g. I play football and often leave my phone in a bag behind the goal posts.... you can see it's not a good idea but I do this with my current phone but put it in my glasses case. I'm due to get my HTC Desire but I am pretty sure it won't fit into my glasses case....

the bubbles are caused by the person putting it on the phone, the bubbles aren't there when you receive the protector on the piece of paper

+1

Great case and official from HTC.

Currently also use cheap screen protectors of eBay but will probably take it off soon as not needed in my opinion

No protection - its just a slip case. There are plenty of hard cases you can pick up that can be used for such a task. Have a look on this thread

Thanks Sootie (never thought that I'd ever be thanking 'Sootie' lol)

I had a read through the forum and it seems like that a screen protector is not required because of the glass screen having an anti scratch coating. There were people on there saying they had had pretty old phones e.g. G1 without ever having a screen protector and they are to this day scratch-free.

I think a pouch, case is probably sufficient.
