if you have updated to the first part from HTC then your phone will tell you when part 2 (2.1) will be over the air.

I've updated the first part but where in your phone does it tell you that?

Ive been to settings and software update or something and all it says is theres isnt a newer version.

there is no setting, when the update is available they will send out a signal and all phones with the first part update will tell you that new firmware is now ready to down load....OTA

Has anyone got it yet then ?

Have had no first update on mine yet, this is a T-mobile g2 hero.
I have also tried the date trick ( put the date forward on your hero to 18.7.2011, still no update.
Looks to me like some people are getting the 1st update but no-one has yet got the 2.1 at this time.

If your phone is sim free, you'll have received the update.

Otherwise you'll need to wait for your operator to send it out.

Anyone know of a good site to root the Hero, ideally with a plain english method of rooting
Lot's of apps are wanting to run with the newer firmware
May have to wait along time for T-Mobile to update the new software

It's really noit that difficult, although as we have newer phones (and you possibly done thge 1st half of this update thing) then you will need to use the "Gold card" method, I managed to do mine in an hour or so, with no prior knowledge, just found a guide and followed it, aqm currently running Chronosdroid a rather tasty little 2.1 firmware, have even seen proof of concept versions of "Froyo" running (albeit very badly) on the Hero, yay for our little phone :-)

Just spoke to t-mobile and all they said was they have to refresh my account, and for me to reboot my phone (take sim, and battery out for 1 minute).

Did this and nothing happened, so tried the date trick as above. This prompted the download, which i accepted then when it installed it crashed. Had to take the batt out of my phone and start it up and the phone just goes back to 1.5.

*sigh*
