And MOST of the add-ons we all loved no longer work! I'll try it again in a few months as it mucked my PC up big time trying to revert back to version 2.

you have been warned.

They prefer people to use the www.getfirefox.com site I think as it is relocated if demand on the main server is too high ;-)

Give them a few days for the third-party add-ons, the good ones will be updated soon enough.

sliced bread isnt that good cos we still have french bread and rolls
or you could just rip a bit off the loaf

I just got it, it there anything really different?

Firefox 3 is as fast as xxxx, Few niggles but 1,000,000 x better than IE7 and better than Firefox 2
#12
I like it too..

Got the beta ages ago and the only thing that annoyed me was that there was no home button along the top menu.

Just got it now and even more annoying now that this is the final realse and there is still no home button along the top! You can't even add one in yourself when customizing!

edit: Just learnt that the home button is in the bookmarks toolbar which sucks. Don't like the bookmarks toolbar :x

edit again lol: just found out how to move it. You have to show the bookmarks toolbar, then right click and hit customize. And then drag the home button up to the navigation toolbar, then close the customization box and right click again and deselect the bookmarks toolbar so it doesn't show it.

What a hassle just to get a home button!

I agree 100%, Firefox 3 is the best web browser ever.

Well I see no real difference after installing FF3 over FF2 (i.e my own settings from the get go).

I have to laugh because FF2 was considerably slower than FF1, yet no doubt people claimed it was faster.

Same menus, almost the same look, same options......... pretty much the same all round.

I swear, you won't be able to live without the new address bar after a month of using it. Even if you haven't noticed it, you'll go on someone else's PC wher they still have FF2 and say "what's up? does yours not do that?".
#20
lol, yeah mine has a home button too and most of my add-ons work - no script, add block etc etc

also, this spellchecker is pretty good too. it's pointing out my typos as i type this. there are definitely some HUKD'ers that could do with this feature - the forums will never be the same place again.

I like firefox 3 and I use it day to day and have been using firefox since the 1st version, I believe Opera is better in its layout and mechanics but I carry on to use firefox because of the extensions, customisations and the way bookmarks are organised, I know most of the shortcuts and I'm not keen on going through a learning process with opera, I believe I'll switch one day though.

Opera is still the better browser and still the fastest browser to date.

I don't know... I've tried using Opera which everyone claims is so much better than FireFox and that FF stole the features, etc, but to be honest I didn't think that the user experience and interface "flows" quite as nicely as Firefox's, which is fairly easy to understand.

Seems faster for me, or at least doesnt lag as much as it used to on Firefox 2.

Luckily the only add ons I have are Adblock plus, filterset g download helper and flashgot so doesnt affect me much

I dont find it any faster than ie7 or even firefox 2

Supposedly its the (java)scripting engine that has been most improved in terms of speed, which should make so called 'Web 2.0' apps quicker (things like gmail etc). Its not going to download web pages any faster - so if thats the bottleneck, you won't really notice any improvement...

Also the memory leaks that plagued FF2 are meant to be fixed - bit early to say I'd say but looks good so far...

Java and Javascript and entirely different things just fyi.

I noticed memory issues with FF2, do hope they're sorted.

I'm beginning to use Opera more and more for some reason, so right now I use them both at the same time.

:giggle: I thought (javascript) scripting would sound daft, but point taken, I should have written it differently...

I dont see any difference really between this and Firefox 2 tbf.

They are quite subtle, if you are expecting a huge change you will be dissapointed, although the revised address bar\download box are reason enough to upgrade for me...

Indeed. Nothing very noticable on the surface, but has a nice "feel" about it. Did the previous version have a browser switcher like this one has? Maybe as a plugin I suppose?
#35
just downloaded it now
ye you make a good point it does have a good 'feel' to it anything than IE
#36
I just downloaded IE8 beta, and it seems much faster than IE7.

Just installed it on my laptop and it was there from the start (laptop still had v2).

Think it was cos i installed the beta on home PC and the home button maybe wasn't there by default in the beta.

Fanboy!!!!!! (joking!) :-D

use IE8!!!! much better faster and better looking and ofcourse you're not being a n00b firfox user (all the best use IE as its the most stable and reliable!!! only people who think they know stuff use FF or SA or even OP
#40
tried FF3 and, TBH, found it annoyingly slow and non-user friendly; will be sticking with IE7 for a while longer, and then may try FF3 vs IE8 - could be an interesting competition between the two in a few months, when all the bugs are sorted...
