HUKD IDEA - Game Swapping/Loaning

Ok firstly, i know i don't post on MISC loads.

However for ages i have had an idea, that could only work on a community like this.

Have never shared it cos i duno, prehaps i was a bit tentative at first.

Anyway the whole idea is

You join (Somehow) the game swapping club of HUKD (Maybe only members with lots of positive feedback (Both buying and selling) and basically swap games For example you could post in a new forum or the FS/FT or MISC forum.

WTD: Swap CODMW2 For Left For Dead 2 (360)

You would then pay postage costs for your item and the other party would pay postage for their item.

OBVIOUSLY this is open to a ton of abuse.
I may also get flames as i don't have loads of feedback.

Just think its a great idea, but i guess only with trusted members.

Thoughts/suggestions/critiscm (Constructive please)

Great idea, don't think it will work though :)

Oh! just saw the constuctive criticism bit, will cause a lot of hassle, "Member disappeared with my game" threads etc.

I think its why i didn't post before.

But i mean i guess it would be peoples choice as to whether they actually swapped with people or not. Obviosuly after a few swaps people would then start to get a good reputation

No clue about games Charlie, I was speaking conceptually :p

Just googled Kerplunk  Hey I've got Operation, shall we swap? :p
#5

lol......if operation has all the bits still

brain training is a good game, its for ages 3+ on the box - its a fun way to learn
#7
But it could also be swapping (As in renting) and then sending back!

i thought he meant to loan them out for a bit, not to trade completely :w00t:- if you are right then the op has missed the for sale/TRADE option completely

WHy?

I understand your sceptism but why do you think.

As i said you woudl only swap with people you trust. I would be quite happy to swap/loan some games with some of the people i have sold to/bought from on the FSFT forums.

There are alot of people with 100% feedback and lots of posts, and who are reliable. DO you really think they would steal my £20 game? And risk having bad feedback after years of good feedback?

i think a swaps board would be a good idea, as long as it was a definately swap rather than i got this what have you got (but as already said it already happens in the fs board, and it would just be another board for the mods to staff)
#15
it could and would work with trusted memembers and aslong as guildlines were set and followed i.e games are posted with 48 hours of an agreed swap or loan and must be sent via recorded delivery and contact info swapped

Yes but this would include loaning, which i don't think i have ever seen happen.

I am more of a browser than a poster!
Though i do try and contribute.

I honestly think it could happen, especially with trusted members such as yourself :)

Yep agreed.

Rules would have to be set in place.

You got any games you wanna loan? :P

Seriously though would it be ok to just try this on the FS/FT forums or would a mod have to agree?

i think things have been loaned, think it was something to do with a psp battery thing, or something like that, like i said i do think its a good idea and no more risky than any other trade, but not saure why its needed on another boards if you know what i mean
#19
I think it could be done on the FS/FT boards but not sure if it is alllowed. Also if it was made more public (Hence the post) to see peoples interest, and also to let people know it is available!

i think a mod would need to agree and a sepreate section would need to be raised and mods would need to come up with guildlines

i think a deposit would need to be sent as well i.e a £10 deposit would be sent via paypal but never withdrawn and then ove the games are sent back the the monies is just refunded would stop some people of running off with the game if games were sent recorded and i had contact details for that person and a deposit i would be happy to loan games but a duration limit would also need to be set

i think loaning stuff would fall under misc, as for swapping goods i think that falls under the fs boards, although i have seen some things purchased for others moved to misc, whilst others have remained on the fs boards :?

I think the amount of problems it would cause with issues such as " I lent so and so my game and now it's damaged... but they SAID they posted it....... oh no the envelope is EMPTY....when shall I contact the police?" just wouldn't be worth the hassle.
#23
I think a deposit would need to be set if it was just for example

Me asking to loan Left for Dead from you but not offering anything in return.

But if it was

me offering to loan you CODMW2 for Left for dead 2 then just postage costs should be paid.

But a deposit in either scenario could be an idea as well!

I think it is just about trust really.

Obviously they would need proof of postage, and if they had genuinely sent it and it had gone missing, royal mail would refund.

But in some ways it is the same as buying from someone, you send the money in good faith they will send the product.

But at the end of the day remember, you would only be loaning/swapping with someone you want to.

I mean i will be the first to try this out if the mods agree.

think people lend xbox360 data kits fairly regulary too:thumbsup:but not a actual "swap"...just a lend...

agreed..personally ive pulled out of trades cos i just dont trust someone - and that would be essential here..only members with x amount of feedback should be involved tho...
mistakes with postage is always a risk but this is minimised with rec del and royal mail can always refund.

With swapping games, this already happens in the FS/Trade board so not needed I think.

With loaning of games, I think most people, once they have finished with a game, would prefer to sell it rather than lend it out.
Do you really want a game back after you have finished with it? Sometime i have games (GTA 4, Mass effect) which i really want to complete but know i won't be playing them for a while (CODMW2)so wouldn't mind lending them
What happens if it gets damaged?Person who damaged would send full payment if it is now unplayable or part payment if not (Though i think this would be a very rare occurence)
Who decides how much it was worth?Could go by CEX second hand prices, or just negotiqate (How do we decide what to sell games for at the moment?)
How do you go about replacing it?CSorry don't know what you mean by this? You mean if it is broken, then see above? In general they would agree a loan for a period and if they want to extend they could always ask.
What does the lender get out of it?Nothing really, except maybe they can then lend something back. But as i said i have literally about 10 games that i do want to complete at some point in my life but i know for a fact i won't be playing for a while, and at the same time don't want to sell them for cheap and then buy them back later

Just a few questions to think about.

This would work - but it would be on a member-to-member basis - the mods and admin would want nothing to do with it. You could quite easily loan games to each other via PM - the same way people loan the transfer kits - theres members I would lend my games to and members I wouldn't.
#33
More hassle than it's worth... Who pays for lost games/postal damages etc?

There would be no regulation to it apart from each others trust.

Better off just doing a trade when you're finished with a game or going to Blockbuster and renting.

I too have a dream, this can work.

In theory it could work, but then again so could communism! Its when it comes down practice i dont believe it would work, especially to no interest to the owner, as they could lose their game, could get broken, might have bits missing (manual for eg), then even if there was a deposit via PPG or BT then it could cause disagreements etc, or waiting for royal mail claims.

I believe it is more hassle then its worth, and becomes more complex for something or no interest to one party other then to help another.

Now i have no issues with lending items to certain members on here, me and another member have even paid half for an item and shared it between us!

sounds like a good way of getting 360 achievements easily with less hassle

What about sending disc only, postage would be cheaper and would hopefully deter people from stealing as value is a lot less.

I think it would work perfectly with some members,i think we should try this, ill only be sticking to high post counts and feedback though.

better to use dedicated sites imo

e.g.

I'm going to start a thread now on the FS/FT or should it be on here.

Listing 3-4 games i will loan people, and 3-4 games i would like loaned in return if possible.

WIll see if this can happen.

And Starr great ideas, and even better picture.
