I was not aware of this, I can understand that for a website to keep going it needs funding, but are any other members aware of HUKDs lack of transparancy? This makes interesting reading I have just found over at Moneysavingexpert.

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=416684

"Some of you might know of the hotuk deals website some might not ..anyway I suggest that you should be aware that the website uses referrer links just like Quidco and Martins site, the difference being Quidco, will give you something back if you use their links, they are fairly transparent in their operation, Martins site is transparent in that he will use it to maintain this site.

Hotuk deals however does not give you anything in return and in fact has cleverly hidden their referrel links within their 'go to deal' button. YOU WONT KNOW BECAUSE IT DOESNT SHOW when you click their button/links, I know because I was checking their website out because I got a little suspicious... [note: not all of their links are referrel links btw] .

So if you want to benefit from your purchases I would suggest you go through Quidco or other such websites that offer you something in return rather than using hotuk deals links. If youre feeling altruistic then use Martins links.

I so dislike the lack of transparency of HotUKDeals, at least Martin has been upfront!"

Are any posters out there aware that HUKD is hiding referral links behind the deal button when you submit a deal? Does anyone know if this is true?

How HotUKDeals is funded
We don't run banner ads on the site, sell ad space, use your email address for marketing or sell your details to other parties. We keep the site funded and running by using commission links on merchants where HUKD receives a commission if a product is purchased. As members submit and vote on deals we believe this keeps the site unbiased but if you have concerns please post and discuss them with us and other members in the Feedback section.

One of the highlights of this site

HUKD = QUIDCO

who cares

As mentioned above, HUKD are transparent about it if you read the about us section - you can also see the referral link when you click through the deal. The forums are now massive and there's full time moderators, the fact that the click throughs are not obvious is good as I'd much rather have that than large ads all over the place.

it also makes me laugh when people moan about the £5 fee on Quidco, who pays it, its not coming out of our pockets, there's no pleasing some people
[mod]#14
You been hiding in a bunker since you signed up? :o

Welcome to what everyone already knew.

Also as you are out of the loop i'll fill you in. Quidco & HUKD = Same owner so best find some dirt on them. lol
#15
well i think HUKD should ask mse to take this off their website - mind you its giving hukd a bit of publicity - not that it needs it

bit of jealousy maybe - especially on the layout of the site

3 cheers for HUKD

Do I get Quidco on this?
#19
lol, so you use codes, vouchers, misprices from a site that is free, but you are cross that they might just make a couple of pence from the sale, soooo hukd's owneer should pay all the fees the site accrues out of his own pocket? Not to mention the competitions they run etc, as anyone can join for no fee i think us members do pretty ok

No I was not aware since joining and posting deals on here that HUKD is owned by Quidco or that any of us posting deals was the way HUKD was making money, I had no clue. Now I do know, but there is no real need for anyone to attempt to belittle me for the lack of the knowledge, after all its hardly well publicised here...as I said lack of transparancy.

With regards to Quidco, I understand that £5 is deducted from us and have no problem with it, it has transparancy, why do people just assume what I "think" just for posting this and asking if anyone else knew about it? I am just curious in knowing how HUKD operate, and was unaware that any of us posting deals they use affiliate links to make money out of us without us getting anything in return, unlike with Quidco whereby both benefit.
#22
I, like all the above, was aware of your OP info. It certainly doesn't bother me in the least. I find a deal on here and, especially , vouchers: I go to quidco or TCB and then I get the best price and money back. Win, win!!

What business is it of yours? You use the site for free?

I cannot put it better. xx  Made me giggle.
#23
LOLZ!

You use the "go to deal" button at your convenience and HUKD benefits as do you - The problem? None.

Use Quidco and get even more in return - Sorted.

It's very transparent that HUKD makes money from referrals - That's why it's still operating.

I think everyone else has said enough :P

We all have to learn eventually :) But it's not exactly a lack of transparency, it's clearly stated in their "About Us" - No need to have a big banner of it everywhere on the site. And yes HUKD and Quidco are the same people - I think it's a good thing for us as consumers, since we find the good deals from here, and get more money back from Quidders.

And the £5 is only deducted from your annual cashback "earnings" - Again, no problem with that as it's money I otherwise wouldn't have had anyway.

It takes time to learn these things and now you are :) So feel enlightened!

I guess that I thought that when you wrote this:

in the OP, that you were miffed in some way.

Yes, there have been plenty of threads in Feedback about funding of this site. If you have a spare hour or two you could use the search function (!!) to track some down.:-D

And?

Site uses it's popularity to make money is hardly a scandal. Everyone who uses this site more than a little knows this.

Lesson in life........we should all read the Small print before we join or sign up to anything. By and large we don't and that is the risk we all run. On this site, it's hardly small print.

Therefore you are not well placed to criticise HUKD. The facts are there. You should have checked them before posting. You are being criticised because you joined without finding out more about HUKD first.

I know, I have posted deals over the last nearly 3 years I have been here, and I have also benefited from plenty of deals myself, no way was I posting this in an attempt to make it sound as if I am criticising the forum, just posting that link and unaware of HUKD lack of transparancy which I admit I am taken aback by, us posting deals and unlike with Quidco not getting anything back for it.

But now I can at least understand one of my pet peevs about HUKD, the fact that I think it should be members only, to stop Ebayers and resellers fleecing all the deals, it would not be in HUKDs best interests to do this as they maximise profits from as many affiliate clicks as they can get.

What you get back is the benefit of the deals. And you get more cash back from Quidco - I don't know what more you could ask for.

I wouldn't mind this either, but it's easy to remain annonymous on HUKD being a member or not, ebayers could still sign up and no one would be any the wiser.

might be wrong but i think ive noticed with the new quidco you cant click through without signing in first now whereas before you would get a box saying if you click through now you will not get cashback so in light of this I would expect HUKD would have to start charging a members fee if they implemented a members only policy, now that would cause a rucus, I think that now you know whats what you can adjust your usage to something that suits your beliefs :)

A most pathetic thread started by someone who has been here a while.

Hang your head in shame!

I dont have any problems the website gaining a little commission from the merchants. Its a win win situation. We get excellent deals, hotukdeals make a little money to keep the site running and the merchant make a sale. Whats wrong with that.

HUKD are not owned by Quidco, and Quidco are not owned by HUKD.

Although the opening quote was not writtten by you, you were the one who posted this on this site. Therefore you have to take responsibility for its contents appearing here. As for the point that it makes, I agree almost everyone knows, except for those that don't care or can't be bothered to find out.

HUKD are not owned by Quidco, and Quidco are not owned by HUKD.

Thanks for that info, makes it even more immature of those posting of my lack of knowledge on HUKD operations, when others here assume HUKD is owned by Quidco.
