this is going to be difficult to explain what i mean, as you probaly know i am toot at explaining myself on the pc, any how here goes.

why is hukd open to everyone without registering, as in you can view the deals without becoming a member, as i see it the members would surely benefit more if only members can see the deals, hopefuly i have explained myself, as in what iam trying to say.

i am not moaning just thinking why, or is it just too complicated or expensive to run a site like that, i am o.k on pc but not to great on internet side, hope i dont sound to ignorant!!

Personally, I never really register to a froum unless I can read the pages first (or most of).

yes that is true, a good point. :whistling:

sitting here thinking about what you just said and i did watch this site for a while before joining, so really i havent made much sense.

I think I get what you mean.
What do people get out of registering with hduk?? appart from the fab banter of course:thumbsup:

Forcing people to register would get rid of alot of traffic.. but then it is traffic that is not contributing to the site anyway so no loss of deals... unless someone who would otherwise browse then join decides to just give up.
Got to remember though this is just the forum.. there is more to hukd than that anyway.

tho if they want to post a deal they have to register, so its not just to post in the forums
#6
True but how many would just create an account using up database space without ever posting? Double edged sword tbh.

Rpoints (shudder) have a closed board. I have an account there, but it still really pees me off that I can't just nip online to check the site at my friend's PC without having to go through the whole logging-in rigmarole.

I was using the site (vouchers only) months before I registered and started using forums. If it was members only then I doubt I would be here now, because it took me a few months to register

That's always been the concept as far as I know, first and foremost to offer all the best deals at the lowest prices to everyone. The front page is now made up of deals posted by members who want to post, rather than all Admin or moderators finds.

I think it's great people can read everything without being forced to sign up, but it's also very nice to have an excellent forum for members to participate in everyday stuff.

Members only would ruin it I think...

When I'm browsing the net and I go to a forum to read something that google has spotted, and I have to register to view it, I mostly wouldn't bother.

So I think an open forum is much better :-D

I have had PM's from some who have only joined because they wanted to get some private info from me,that they have seen i have from a certain post and they have never posted at all.I tell them that when i see a few posts from them, thus becoming an active member, then i will divulge my info and not before. Some do,but some just can't be arsed,so neither can i.:)

It's been discussed before and admin has said noooooooooooooooooooo, but personally I wish it were register only, I know I never ever sign up at a board unless I can see it or know whats inside etc....so that way the only people who will sign up are the people who are going to contribute, people who really want to be here....it would knock out 90% of the leechers in an instant and not do any damage to the current deals posted etc

but that's just my uneducated opinion of course and I know it aint going to happen!

Interesting to hear people's views on this. I have to say for myself I have never joined a forum that I could not read un-registered. Registering to view always smells like a bit of a scam and it has always turned me off. Sure there are always going to be lurkers but these same lurkers would exist even if they had to sign up to view the posts, just because they are registered doesn't mean they will contribute. Anyways, many are lurkers simply because they don't have anything to add yet, but one day they will see where they can contribute and they will pitch in. I am willing to bet every one of you or almost everyone did not immediately register when they came to the site. It's normal to poke around, observe, and then register and pipe up once you feel you have a place.

that is what i did myself, took me quite a while before i registered, and i have mixed views myself on which is right or wrong, but then like you said most of the lurkers will probaly register anyway, and that i suppose is how hukd has grown. but thanks everybody for their views, it has helped me understand the site and how you lot want it run.
