HUKD - Quote of the day

Post your favourite quote of the day from hukd.

Mine is from Sematic who explains why you're not allowed to use your phone on a plane.

The only reason you are not allowed mobile phones in a plane is because all calls made are free because you are above the phone network.

someone put there phone in the washing machine the replys were:

saxo_appeal:
it will dry out, just be patient for a while....like 2 weeks

marshallka:
or half an hour on tumble dry should be quicker

On that thread also someone asked the OP what network the phone was on.

They answered that it was on Vodafone and was then told that phone would have been alright if it was on O2 - gave me a giggle :giggle:
#7
well. O2 clearly indicates that there is more oxygen in their product, meaning its more protected from water- although the bubbles msy disturb people on your 'recent;y dialled' list...
#8
LMAO

Nice one!

Here's mine for the day, why do people always say this when they don't have an answer to the analogy?

thesaint
I vote this analogy the WORST EVER ANALOGY IN THE HISTORY OF BAD ANALOGIES.

Having just discovered this thread, I will say that it is sad creating a thread designed just to take the **** out of another person. I know you will say it is for laugh but do you have no people skills? I based my knowledge off my cousin who works in the MoD for Italian air traffic control so I believe him. Also if you are too high to make a phone call then why do they have phones on planes that can make phone calls?

I think they use different technology, maybe satelites? Not sure, but I know that making a call wouldn't be free because you're in the air.

Sorry if it offended you, it's meant to be for a laugh and I'm sure someone's going to quote me very soon! If you don't like it then I'll happily take it off.
#12
IMO its all in good jest.
#13
Well I thought mobile phones use the satellite and that the only thing transmitters on the ground are used for is network and signal boosting? in theory if you are in a plane you are above the network catchment zone and closer to the satellite therefore meaning you can make a phonecall not registered under your network making it free. Do not remove the quote but just consider others in your actions.

Appreciated. Mobiles talk directly to the transmitters on the ground (they don't have the power to connect to a satelite). The transmitters then talk to the satelites to contact people further away. Trust me, if you're able to talk on the line then it's going through the network and it's costing you!

Ok guys, I'm going to have to apologise as I now realise it was a bit personal to me.
The image that was conjured up of someone from the MOD working in Italian Air Traffic Control telling someone else that they could make free phone calls if they were 33.000 feet up and that's why phones were banned was all too much for me and regretably made me laugh, whether the info is true or not.

I've slapped myself on the wrist and promise to be a good boy in future.

Sorry once again Sematic

Congratulations everyone. I think we have just broken the record.

And, all credit to the coders, the site's still running smoothly. :)

yipykayay
The statistics box hasn't updated to reflect this.

duckmagicuk2
Nope, ironically there was an error in the code. :)

I'll add I left my mobile on by accident (i had two forgot I had the other), during a flight to Majorca. It didn't bring the plane down, I didn't look at it though to see what network I was on.
