My husband is off to Afganistan soon for six months, going to be away over christmas, new year, my 30th birthday the lot.. Its the longest we have been apart, normally only 3/4 months.. not looking forward to it.. (he is in the marines)

Anyway as a morale booster whilst he is away i normally send him parcels every so often with bits and pieces in which can get expensive... do im starting to look out for freebies that i can add to his boxes, whether its samples, magazines, what ever as its all welcome by him and i know he shares some stuff with the other lads he is there with...

Basically, im asking you lovely people here on Hot Uk Deals if you find or can think of any particularly good freebies or ways of getting some to list them here so i can crack on at trying to get some stuff together for when he's gone...

Thanks loads for your help i really appreciate it. http://www.bobsfreestuffforum.co.uk/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

List of things ive so far got or applied for

Origional Source Sample - recieved
Loreal Anti Dandruff - applied
Various magazine deals - going to apply nearer the time

Have i misunderstood or do you mean BFPO addresses? If that is the case, sadly FAR too few companies are happy to deal with BFPO. Despite the stirling and dangerous work being done by the armed forces, many businesses treat BFPO addresses as being on Mars!! They seem unaware or unprepared to accept that small packet and letter rates are the same to 99% of BFPO as to mainland UK addresses:x

These companies however will post via BFPO...http://www.bfpo.mod.uk/commrecpt_bfpo.htm
and these are the restrictions of what can be posted BFPO regardless of whether the actual company will deliver or not....http://www.bfpo.mod.uk/mail_prohibitions.htm

I'm guessing it's fairly unlikely you'll be applying for a sample of some of these products listed..."anti-tank rocket launchers; mortars and other military weapons; electric stun guns"
- shame that....would give him something to play with in his spare time!!

this might be of more personnal help for mailing rates for Ops Telic and Herrick...http://www.bfpo.mod.uk/optelic_opherrick_mail.htm

I'm sure he will be OK, so while he is away we are going to have to keep you company. First of all we need to know when your birthday is so that we can have a big celebration  and then Curry, Sy and myself will take it in turns to keep you company when the cold damp evenings of the winter come in. In the mean time, if you are at a lost over the summer you can come to some of our BBQ's :giggle:

Your bloke comes top of my list when it comes to being heroes (unlike some of our media hyped 'heroes') so all the best to you both.

Maybe a long shot but would it be worth trying to blag freebies direct from the companies for as much publicity as you can muster.

i.e contact Gillette and ask them if they could send a parcel direct to your mans troop, group, whatever they are called. Don't know what publicity you could give to them but someone can come up with that idea.

I see you have and I look forward to a good tease when i next visit...one rule for the babes is that they must post a pic of themselves in their best undies...you may wish to visit the la sanza thread to make a purchase!! LOL...by the way craz seems to prefer light colours while I go for reds ...and IOM is not fussy as long as they come off washing lines..LOL

While I was out in the Balkans, we wrote to several large electrical retailers and magazine publishers explaing how bored we were and that we had no home comforts, we got a couple Playstations sent out (when the ps1 was in) and several magazine publishers sent us magazines out on a weekly/monthly basis. We tried the same trick on Op Telic but to no avail. But its worth a try.

You know the shoebox appeal they have for Eastern European orphanages?

How about starting up that sort of campaign around Crimbo time, maybe try getting a daily newspaper involved, bit of publicity for them and anyone supplying any goodies then.

I'd certainly do one.

I can't think of any other companies but just wanted to show a bit of support and say I think this is a great idea.

I wouldn't have the balls to go and fight for our country, Nothing but respect for the ones that do! :)

How about Op. Boxbluey? As for the contents, i have been racking my brain, but there are so many restrictions, and the heat is an issue for lots of ideas too, but i will keep thinking:)

Bit of a wierd one...but how about in a couple of months time, contacting companies like Asda and Woolies etc, to see if they would provide any Xmas decs and stuff (you would have to doctor any crackers and take the snaps out though)
