Dont understand your problem. if you put emails in your deleted items folder then they will stay there. Why shouldnt they? There is probably an option to empty the deleted items folder upon exit.

Yes there is but they still won't go ... !
I could put items into the deleted items folder & then delete them, I have Googled the problem & it seems that this is quite common & happening to lots of people but finding a solution that works is another matter ! Thanks anyway

I have now managed to find the solution & want to say thanks to everyone who tried to help, & will post what fixed it in case anyone else needs a fix for the same thing.

First you need to find out if you have a 32 or 64 bit windows Vista
then click 32 or 64 bit link :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=09F002D9-A140-42A8-99F5-A86F2B7E39F1&displaylang=en 32bit
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=09DABF39-1E37-46DD-91BC-BE5ABE3F39B7&displaylang=en 64bit
then download the update from Microsoft
Problem fixed.

FFS, sorry dude but you didn't say it was the Outbox, all the advice from everyone has been for the deleted items folder, poorness for not explaining yourself.

I didn't say it was the outbox because it wasn't the outbox !

I think I explained myself perfectly well thankyou ! If you have just clicked on the link & seen
'
Install this update to resolve an issue where messages become stuck in the Outbox and cannot be deleted when using Windows Mail.'

this does not mean to say that it was not my deleted items folder I was having problems with that I mentioned several times ..... !!
it fixed the problem all the same !
I have been told this update will fix problems in windows mail (Vista) whatever the folder is that items cannot be deleted from ..

Show me where you mentioned it being stuck in the outbox then?? Oh yeah you can't. Don't argue about it when the facts speak for themselves ie your posts did not state the issue that the update fixes hence my post.

The OP stated that the problem was with items in the Deleted Items folder being undeleteable, and that the Windows Update - despite it not being directly stated that it will resolve problems with the Deleted Items folder - resolves their problem.

This does not mean the OP had items stuck in their Outbox, just that Microsoft didn't describe the full effects of their Update very well..
