I am ready to throw the piece of junk out of the window!!!!!!!!!!!

That piece of junk being the PS3!!!! Experiencing so many problems with it - can never sign in and perform the updates needed. Have checked on the internet the various error codes and none of the suggestions work, tired turning off all the security on my router, forwarding ports etc - and still nothing!

All I wana do is switch the bloody thing on and play Fifa, add these problems to the installation of games etc and there is only one clear winner when it comes to a gaming console - the Xbox 360!

Perhaps the updates issue would be sorted if Sony brought out that 'Premium' service so often discussed. At least with MS you know when you are being shafted 8)

shoulda bought a proper console
#8
I've reset the console to factory settings, lost all my data and trophies (dont give a **** about them any more) and am now installing the updates on it, it had better work
#9
Mine is amazing :) been playing fifa 10 today and fifa 09 for the last few weeks. Played a few online matches too :).

let's face it, PS3's, pulling your hair out and feeling that you probably should have brought a proper games console go hand in hand.

well it didnt work, it got through about 4% of the update and stopped due to a connection to the server cannot be established, there is nothing wrong with my internet connection so havnt a clue whats wrong with it

They can still throw it out the window for their own satisfaction, just let me know what time and i'll be there to catch it.
#14
put your PS3 on the DMZ of your router, this will eliminate routing/firewall issues.

Trade it for an xbox

*awaits an xbox is rubbish thread once it breaks

Buying an Xbox would be worse than the resulting mess of debris that throwing a PS3 out of the window would create.

lol @ tyring to argue one console over the other

are you 5 again?

if its a system update why not update via usb drive
#19
Beat me to it djnaff, here's to hoping you have a spare USB drive (or even flash memory with a usb adaptor) around roryk83.

Unfortunately I can't advise as to fixing your internet connection (with your PS3) issues - out of curiosity are you using a wired/wireless connection with your PS3?
Hope things get better and you can resume gaming to your heart's content.

Are you running a wired or wireless connection? if wireless how far is your router from the ps3?
#21
I am running a wireless connection, there shouldnt be a connection issue because my xbox is right next to it and that connection is always fine

i tried resetting the router's settings in case I had made a mistake and added the PS3 to the DMZ list as suggested, still doesnt complete the download

the console is a pain in the a***

randomly the PS3 just completed the update after having tried for the millionth time! Weird.

Wont let me sign into the network though because it says the session times out, but at least I can play the games!

Maybe you should try contacting Sony if it's not a local problem? As the PSN is fine for me today.

I haven't had a single problem with it sinse I bought it 1 year ago (aside from the calander reset debacle!). If it drives you mad so much, swap it for an Xbox...Personally I sold the box and kept the PS3.

I have both, its just that they've made it such an ordeal just to switch on and play games, should have made that simpler

It is a bit annoying with the updates and stuff but I never have cut off and downloads take 10 mins tops...Not sure whats wrong with yours?
suspended#28
Updates are only once every couple of months, and when they arrive, only takes around 15 minutes to download on an average line.
Not exactly a major inconvenience. And it's needed to ensure the service is up to date, which is better than having a poorly maintained service.

Never had a problem connecting with my PS3 in 3 years

Maybe your ps3 hates you?

My brother is always on FIFA 09, plays online too, without any prblems. And I play mw2 online all the time, no trouble with the online connection.

not an option unfortunately, and its not a case of a bad workman, if you look on the net you will see that loads of people have experienced this problem (and loads of them have a lot of technical knowledge)
#33
Have you thrown out the junk out the window yet op lol! On a serious note try placing the ps3 more closer to the router or consider buying a 10m ethernet cable for a couple of quid and using that when you need to update.

Lucky enough I have never had a single problem with my PS3
