I am really hacked off! (Read this if you like energy drinks and are under 18 and shop in sainsburys!)

I just went into sainsburys and bought some blue bolt. Got to the checkout and she said can I have some ID...and i was like wtf! She said i cant have it as I havnt got ID. So i went to customer services and you have to look over 21 or have ID! This is ridiculous. Yes it is bad for you but so are sweat..cakes etc. I have been buying it for years and now I cant have it as i am under 18! In tescos and waitrose and probably everywhere else you can buy it!

I think I will be complaining to sainsburys HQ....and I will not be shopping in there for now onwards!

#2
sounds stupid but it must be company policy
#3
You haven't actually stated the reason for not serving you it. I don't think it is because 2It's bad for you".

Im 16 so they said I can serve you unless you have ID for over 18!
#7
well i am not under 18 i am 25 but 25 looking under 18 and thats worst got refused a tin of hairspray and asked for id i didnt have id as i never carry it around and its worse when everyone says to you be flattered at looking young but to me its damn annoying when you cant have something you want just because you look young.

It is a new company policy because there is a small risk of overdosing on it which can cause heart palpitations. But there should be a sign stating age restrictions on purchasing it like you find in the alcohol aisle.

that has happened to me at somerfield once before. A few years back when i was at school. went in to shop to get red bull and they said you needed to be it was either 16 or 18 so i couldnt get it. Ended up buying from shop next door...their loss lol

well there isnt a display saying so so I think I shall make a complaint to them and TS. Tescos have it for 5p less anyway....i shall go there from now on
#11
Yes i would definately complain about lack of notification of new rule.
You may even get a bit of compensation ;-)

Don't know about Blue Bolt but a number of countries have banned Red Bull.

The high caffiene content can make the blood sticky causing heart problems, Arythmias & possibly the slight risk of myocardial infarction.

Perhaps as OP says it's in case a youngster overdoses on it which in a way makes Sainsbury a very responsible company.

So all of a sudden I can have heart problems after buying it for years without any problems? They might aswell go the hole hog and ban mcdonalds etc .

do you reckon is should go back and take a photograph as evidence?

Im way older than 18 and Ive been asked I.D. for a lottery ticket. I nearly killed the woman at the till cos I said she could be the reason why I may not be a millionaire. Don't be ridiculous!!

I did have I.D. but I just think she was being bored, stupid and obnoxious. Some of the till asssistants out there are time waster!!
#15
Perhaps they thought it was alcohol :?

I can kinda understand that (agree with you tho) but some sweats etc have very high sugar level etc and are bad for you yet they dont have restrictions on them! Its stupid that i cant buy red bull etc!

No, I reckon you should just forget about it, holy moly, there's more things to be concerned about in this world than whether you can buy blue bolt lol

If Sainsburys don't want to sell you something they don't have to, plain and simple.

Thanks.

Kinda funny you got rejected, really. :p

Jokes aside, the tills in Sainsburys come up with notifications that warn us about overage products, which can included Newspapers, Dvds, Alcohol ect...must admit, never had one come up for an energy drink / Relentless (Buy all the time)...
...will have a look next time im on till:thumbsup:

well said, its not the end of the world

if the till was saying id was needed, the cashier was covering herself as it would of been her in bother

i work in lidls and have been informed were no longer to sell to kids under 16 cause of the high caffine and stimulant in it
banned#29
Don't worry Sam...in 2 years you can legally smoke and drink...so you'll be fine leaving the non deadly stimulants out!
#30
they should really have signs for this if they are going to enforce it, same with coffee if they are going to get silly about it! It's entirely discretion in this case, my advice go to home bargains or heron, avoid the big supermarkets, too much business goes their way anyway for not any extra customer service
#31
i got refused to be served cigarettes in usa when i was 22 even WITH passport id

they didnt believe it was genuine :x

cant wait until your on a till in waitrose and some little oik comes to your till trying to buy an age restricted product and gives you grief when the till prompts you for an id request. I look forward to that thread.

I'd have thought somebody who works in a supermarket would've had a little more consideration for other supermarket workers and I beg to differ that they don't employ numbskulls:whistling:

maybe all the energy drinks have got you just a little too worked up.
