I bought a stolen Iphone

Hi all, im really peeved at the moment. I bought a iphone 3GS about 5 months ago now which was locked to orange. I imediately telephoned orange to ask for the unlock code, (ive registered the phone with them, and with apple etc when I got it). Orange told me I had to be on their network for 3 months before they would give me the code to unlock it. So i bought a payasyougo sim and used the phone, no probs. so 3 months arrived and went but they still hadnt unlocked the phone, so more phone calls etc etc.

Anyway to cut it short, after loads of calls and about 5 months since I bought the phone and 5 months being in contact with orange, they have today told me the phone is stolen.

What i cannot understand is how does it take 5 months to work out an iphone is stolen? I cannot get in contact with the person anymore, which doesnt surprise me after 5 months. But why take so long to tell me its stolen, theyve been sooooo dam slow.

Is there anything I can do as this all just doesnt make sense to me. Nobody would take 5 months to report a stolen phone, I find it unbelieveable that orange take 5 months to tell me its stolen?

If orange had told me this straight away when I registered the phone I'd of had a better chance of getting my money back.

I feel soooooooooooo peeeved.

Can anyone advise me, or help in anyway?

Sorry for not getting back sooner.

I spoke to orange who clearly dont know what there doing, the bunch of idiots.

They said the phone was reported stolen on the 17th of march, but due to a computer clitch the system didnt bar the phone untill this week. They apologised and said there was nothing they could do. They did say that they had blocked the original owners new phone as they had clearly sold it, but wether that is true or not I dont know. I got the feeling they said that to try and make me feel better.

So im now stuck with a useless phone mostly thanks to orange.

Thanx to everyone for their comments and suggestions, ill just have to wait and see if anything can be done in the future.

How is that Orange's fault?
It's solely down to the person you bought it from selling stolen property. It's not your fault, Orange's fault or anyone elses. Report it to the police, and put a small claim in against the person you bought it from. Of course you may need to get a court order for orange to give you the details if you can't find them anywhere.

Not much of a camera tho, I get better pictures on my sons £10 LG.

Personally you brought it in good faith, and all that, I would get it hacked and the IMIE changed to a old phone in your cupboard so it does not duplicate on the network. Very illegal, but hey... You paid for it..
