I cant belive people get away with it

I was in asda today to buy stuff for my mother in law. I spent 30 mins or so queuing and even longer trying to get past rude people while shoppping. As i was waiting to pay i saw a man walk through one of the empty checkouts with a trolley full of shopping. He looked like he was up to no good and walked up and down and then headed for the doors when the security were talking. So he stole all that shopping! Ive never stole anything and think its disgusting but i do wonder why i bother working hard and doing everything legally when they get away with it.
Me and my other half were talking about it and the shop assistant just shrugged her shoulders like theres nothing they can do!
I know people steal but i had no idea it was on that scale and so easy for them!
Grrr

But they take the risk of getting caught, being prosecuted, court case and possibly having it reported in the newspaper. You choose not to do that. Lots of people do lots of things that I do not approve of, but I don't feel tempted to do what they do just because the legal route seems like hard work.

its very easy, did you not catch them up and ask the to get your shopping for you, it would have saved you a small fortune, a nice plasma maybe, lol

plenty people do this in supermarkets-its actually MORE common for someone to attempt an entire trolleyload than just stick one small item in their pockets-its an epidemic tbh and asda are the worst hit because 3 years ago they dispensed with security managers, then 2 years ago, properly trained security staff on a cost cutting exercise.

the ordinary colleagues given security duty are taken away for other tasks regularly throughout the day including the "rumble"(shelf tidy up) which is done twice a day at the same time every day.All the thieves need to do is wait til rumble time then help themselves!

Doesnt security notice someone walking out with a trolley of stuff and no carrier bags?

They run the risk of getting caught but it was so easy i would asume there not that concerned. I would never steal. I didnt say i was tempted just that it annoys me that they get away with it and wonder why i bother sometimes.

I wonder the same thing.

From working in Spar, I saw plenty of shoplifting in front of my eyes - Often stopped it, or had enough evidence to give to police, including CCTV, name, address etc. They were in the next week at it again.

Makes you wonder what's the point in paying really...

My sis does it on a regular basis when she has left her bags for life in the car so she packs it when she gets to the car:thumbsup:

It's a big problem in the current climate, our tesco store (where I work) has just put in a security company as we were losing 1k a week minimum. In the first week (2 weeks before xmas) they stopped 18 people....

As barky said, it's far easier to walk out with a whole trolley than small items, as a lot of people don't use bags anymore (esp in tesco) so it's hard to distinguish who is legit.

Just last week someone tried to leave our store with 2 full trollies of shopping but one of the items (small toothbrush) had a tag on it and they got stopped. They ended up legging and leaving the trolleys. We counted it as £450 worth of stock.

People will do anything in the present climate, and where the normal people you would expect, used to be kids / young adults, there are more 'higher class' people trying it. Dressed in suits / smartly.

Just needs the security staff to do random stops, it might **** 90% of people off, but hopefully it will catch the few prats.

ignore anything he says, he is making it up, trying to get a reaction from you, to report you for swearing, abuse etc.
He is just one of the regular trolls who frequent these forums

It means he cant spell.

To be honest. I feel sorry for him not angry. Coming from a poor background and living in Leicester, it's a tough existance and every penny helps in that sort of household.

I doubt he'll ever change. By the time he's 18, he'll probably be behind bars.

Security cannot do random stops, they have to see them stealing or have a member of staff see them.

I know but they should be allowed to e.g. when we leave the premises thro the staff entrance, the door randomly selects people to get searched

Having taken careful consideration of the OP, i have come to the conclusion that the thieves in asda today were off their trolleys :)

They would lose too much custom, I know I would stop shopping there. (and not because I thieve)
