I got an expensive item for free.....or maybe not!

I made a purchase from PC World for an item worth in the region of £350, after receiving all the confirmation emails, the cost was debited out of my account and I received the item yesterday.

After checking my card statement today, it seems that they have refunded me the full amount, the day after the amount was taken. I hadn't cancelled the order or returned anything and I thought it was quite strange.

Has this every happened to you?
Do you think they will take the money out of my account again, or do you think I've now got it for free?

I can neither confirm or deny these allegations.

I very much doubt they will take the money again as they would need further authorisation from you to make another debit from that account. Do they have your address? If not your laughing woop woop :)

I forgot to mention that I purchased it from PC World Online, so they have my credit card details and address.

I bought an £350 Item from pixmania and the money was taken at the time but then showed as available in the account 5 days later but then the following day it was gone again.

I had the same thing happen to me with the game San Andreas when it first came out, they didn't took the money again, £350 is a lot though!

if it works like my bank then it like this...
when you made the purchase the money was put aside in your account so its no longer an available balance to you.... the company have 7 days to ask for the money before it goes back to being an available balance for you ... but they can ask for it anytime...
my sister had this and she had not noticed she just thought she had more money than she thought she had and she got in trouble with the bank ...
if you spend the money and 3 days later pcworld ask for the money then the bank have to by law honour the payment ... makes you £350 overdrawn

My bank told me something along these lines when I took out £3,600 they told me not to spend it because it's not actually there, stupid really.

Well I hope they don't take it, but chances are they probably will.

I've had a similar thing with some flights I booked to Australia. The money was blocked, then released a week or so later. Then a week after that it was taken. My concern at the time was not that I had got my flights for free but that I had not got my flights.

Yeh, it seems like my potential good fortune hasn't happened, as they've just withdrawn the money out of my account again.
