Ok i got an interview tomorrow for a job in a shop near the uni but the manager implied I was just to drop in for a chat so was wondering how formal I would need to dress?

I would go smart but casual.

Black trousers and a nice top, that sort of thing.

Hope this helps.

thats what i thought but then i looked at the clothes i have at uni and its either

a suit (had for my graduate job interviews)
or
jeans

:x

#8

#9
suit wins, every time
banned#10
jeans are a definite no no for interviews IMHO
#11
I would say wear the suit trousers and a shirt, its not too formal.

As a manager, I even like people to be smart if they drop in CV's, you only have one chance to make a good first impression, wear a suit, check your shoes are clean and keep peircings (if you have them) to a minimum.

Good Luck...and relax, interviewers are often nervous themselves, we don't do it everyday.
#13
I'd probs go suit, although I dont think I'd wear a tie for what your describing.

Remember customers, genuine, warmth if we dont have it offer alternative.
Enjoy interacting with people etc etc...

Good Luck

A short skirt and plenty of cleavage on show would persuade me if I were hiring. :)

Offer an alternative to warmth???....sounds like pcworld staff:whistling: perhaps thats it, be the opposit of high street electrical chains....::thumbsup:

remember an interview can be based on selling your self so if you dont look the part you wont get the part!

So i agree smart casual make an effort and it will pay off

or perhaps if the interviewer is a woman:)
#21
i'l clear it up im female.

I shall be wearing my suit tomorrow or at least trousers and a shirt and coat

its only a part time job but i could do with it and also i think it could be good to work in a shop, be a change.

I have had plenty of interview practice in the last few months with all the big4 accountancy firms so hopefully that will have helped
#22
Allstar that sounds fine.

As mentioned I think it always good to look like you have made a effort for anything. Without going OTT.

Having worked in retail at a managment level, indeed still in retail just not stores, its amazing how many people dont make any effort and even interupt you when serving customers to hand in their CV (Post It Note: Rude on CV).

Retail is fun, I miss interacting with people so much and the different impacts one good customer can make on your day and vice versa. At least I can check out HDUK now!

The whole forum will want to know how you get on now :)

Oh I always thought you were male, must have been the xbox posts!

Yes. You don't want to go in their either, you know how you can't walk through certain stores without getting perfume sprayed at you, well they do the same in there to demonstrate their products. Couldn't see straight for days! :o
