It's complete pants. At the moment, I am getting a battery low warning on average every 4 seconds!!! If it didn't fanny around warning me that the battery was low, it might last a bit longer!!!

Don't forget to close the camera shutter and also close unnecessary programs by holding "C"...

It helps ... a bit

For sure! It's one hungry beast! :whistling:

Have you debranded it? That helps a lot I think, a it doesn't have loads of extras running on the phone...

EDIT: Oh and is it the 8gb or the original 4gb?

Well, in the absence of an answer you'll need to upgrade to the latest firmware (consider debranding if you want to get the very best one, just Google it) and then the best advice for saving battery life is as follows

Basic Optimizations

1 - * Bluetooth - keep it off unless needed. Put bluetooth management on «active standby» screen for easy access («Tools» | «Settings» | «General» | «Personalisation» | «Standby mode» | «Active standby apps..»).

2 - * Brightness timeout …not more than 10 seconds («Tools» | «Settings» | «General» | «Personalisation» | «Display» | «Light time-out»).

3 - * Screen brightness - turn it down a notch or two («Tools» | «Settings» | «General» | «Personalisation» | «Display» | «Light sensor»).

4 - * Lower the standby timeout - mine's set to 1 minute («Tools» | «Settings» | «General» | «Personalisation» | «Display» | «Power saver time-out»).

5 - * Camera - do not walk around with "live" viewfinder1.

6 - * WLAN scanning - turn it off…scan manually, or turn scanning on when needed («Tools» | «Settings» | «Connection» | «Wireless LAN» | «Scan for networks»).

7 - * 3G - turn it off - especially in areas with poor coverage, where the N95 otherwise will spend stupefying amounts of power searching for networks («Tools» | «Settings» | «Phone» | «Network» | Set «Network mode» to «GSM»).

8 - * WLAN transmit power (TX power level) - turn it down to, say, 4 mW. («Tools» | «Settings» | «Connection» | «Wireless LAN» | «Options» | «Advanced settings» - say YES to the prompt - scroll down to TX power level choose options/change/ and select 4 mW.).

In particular do Point 7 (you may need to have debranded to do this though...)

You just can't beat SonyEricsson phones for battery life.

Nokia, Samsung....all the same, they make great phones but whats the point if your too worried about using the battery up to use it properly??

how do i turn of the searching for 3g on the orginal n95 please i cant find how to do it - it on the 3 network
#15
If it's on the 3 network you cannpt do it without upgrading your firmware, which you have to do by debranding your phone. This may invalidate your warranty. The main reason for this is that 3 network was set up with the specific aim of providing high quality 3G services, so by disabling the ability to turn it off (ie go to GSM mode) they would significantly reduce the likelihood of these services being used.

I have mine on 3, I debranded it myself (carefully) upgraded to latest firmware and I get 3 or 4 days out of mine by following the advice I set out earlier and switching to GSM. Don't bother getting newer batteries with a higher 1200mAh from eBay, they're a waste of time.

Let me know how you get on...

The 8GB version has a much better battery life. I have both lol :p

Debranding and firmware upgrade worked well for me as well. Phone is also generally more reliable. Also worth getting a spare battery and a dual charger off EBAY.
