I have a question

I have noticed that on the M5 south they are replacing the metal central reservation barriers with concrete ones. Will these not cause more damage to cars and or me if I do crash?
Any body know why then?

Dont the concrete ones absorb more of the impact than the metal ones and
also prevent/reduce the chances of you crossing over the other side of the motorway?
( which would REALLY damage you and your car!! )

Meh, Its like Clarkson once said.

"if all car manufacturers were to replace the airbag with a huge metal spike, there would be far less accidents"

Just found this. http://www.highways.gov.uk/knowledge/11569.aspx

But I always thought that the metal types broke and absorbed speed just curious I suppose

Thats the problem, they do break allowing cars to cross the median into oncoming traffic which would end up being a far more serious accident

well the damned fear of killing myself no matter the crash due to a giant spike would make me drives carefully, and the people likely to crash will be dead and off the road...thus safer! ;-)

Just after the M42 junction they have been doing night works but the restriction was lifted this week but the cameras are stil up at the moment so people slow down just be aware of sudden braking. At Gloucester Airport/ Cheltenham are road works without speed cameras but take it easy anyway as the restriction is in place for the working gangs
