stop ticking the box that says remember my passwords for a start
#2
delete the name from within the box, that usually does it for me

In Firefox, click 'Tools' in Menubar, then 'Options', then Security (near top), then in the Passwords section, click on 'Saved Passwords' button. Then click on 'Remove all' button.

Oh yeah, whil in the Security section, untick the box that says 'Remember Passwords for Sites' if that is the behaviour you don't want.

Clear all your cookies and history. Go to Tools, Privacy and set it as Never remember History :)

Since I'm in work and not at my PC can't remember exactly how but if you go in tools, settings or something there is a box about the passwords and it allows you to remove them and to also set a master password. This probably won't help but just look around I'm sure you find it.

Seriously though, I hear people knocking it all the time and extolling the virtues of FF, Chrome etc. I have used IE for years (IE8 now) and never have any problems at all.
Am I doing something wrong or something?

yes, IE8 works but its so damn basic. It's new features for each release are just copied from opera / firefox versions from years ago. try get IE8 to autload pages on ebay, hukd etc that have multiple pages so you can just scroll from 1 page to the next etc etc

Plus its the browser that everyone tries to hack most

You try to get FF to open a new tab on your homepage. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Just click the + sign next to the home page tab!

or right click and select NEW TAB:w00t:

Theres no swings and roundabouts in it. IE8 is like going back 10 years in time in terms of browser functionality.

Do you think I would have said it had it been the same as IE8? Just google for Firefox/new tab/homepage and you'll find it's a very active problem. There is supposed to be a FF add-on that enables it but it doesn't work for me, in fact the problem was so irritating to me that that was the reason I ended FF's trial run on my comp.
I'm not a novice by any means and had it been as simple as you suggest then maybe I'd still be using it today.

well maybe if you descibed this 'problem' better, then I may offer advice. The fact remains I aint got a clue what you are on about.

EDIT:

Just middle click the HOME icon to open a new TAB with the home page loaded

it wasnt exactly hard to find the answer
