We have had to come over here for my Mothers Aunties Funeral , she passed away on Friday night. she was more like a grandmother to us as when her sister (my mothers mum ) passed away at an early age her and her husband Albert took my mother and her brother in and raised as their own .

I am <> myself coming back as had a bit of anxiety on the plane on the way over..
We left the house this morning at 5am to fly over here , we are leaving at 10 ish tonight to go back .....I am going to be shattered like the missus .
My sis is here with her fella and also my mum ......to make it worse were right near the flight path of the city airport ( so im being reminded of the plane every few mins .....grrrrrrr)

Dell how the hell do you fly pakistan etc ..........

Read a couple of my jokes in the Joke thread, you'll be grand. Or even tell the person beside you the one about the camel. It's bound to get a reaction

Are you flying with Ryanair? The pilots like to get down as fast as possible making the landing very rough, much to alnbowes relief :giggle:.

Try the homeopathic way. hopefully they'll have the Bachs Flower Remedies at the airport

Fear of flying Andrea had been delighted with her job promotion as it brought opportunities to travel and she would be regularly flying to Europe for various project meetings. The first flight to Prague was a terrible flight, bad weather with tense crew and frightened passengers. Andrea suddenly realised just how afraid she was of flying, and had actually been quite terrified during the flight. Although she still got excited when a new trip was scheduled, as soon as the ticket arrived on her desk, her fear kicked in, even to the point of having nightmares in the days leading up to departure. Once on the plane she would try and stop shaking and focus on reading a book, but was arriving at her destination feeling emotionally wrung out and not ready for work.
Recovering from the trauma of the initial flight – Star of Bethlehem
To address the terror and the nightmares – Rock Rose
Fear of flying – Mimulus
Mimulus is the remedy of choice when there is a fear of flying, but is also for other known fears, such as fear of spiders, heights, confined spaces, being outdoors, going for an interview, giving a presentation and so on. And sometimes people just do not feel courageous enough to be themselves and may be quite shy and blush easily. Mimulus will also help them.
A convenient way to take your remedies when flying is to add them to a small bottle of spring water.

My OH has flight related anxiety.

He listens to music, then takes a small dose of diazepam if needs be. Though on his last trip
music and 2 a stiff drink with diversion tactics worked. Get chatting to someone and focus.
You be suprised how easy it is to forget your fears.

Hope your both ok

cheers for this , ironic thing is that years ago at 14 i had a panic attack on a plane to alicante on the way over . Never got a plane since apart from over here 2 yrs ago when me grandad died. then read a book on fear of flying , (alan Carr)
Last year we all went over to salou and after reading the book , I swear i was fine , I read the book b4 and when geting on the plane i had NO FEAR or anxiety.

Today what with the recent accidents and everything , I was totally anxious and got meself worked up so much that when i got on the plane , I dont know how i kept my composure ........Wheni touched down i could have kissed the pilot only to think , I dont believe I have to go back again .........:whistling:

I know it maybe a bit weird, but rubbing my earlobes gently works for me too before I go on a plane and before job interviews.

When my nephews/nieces were babies I used to do this and still do to the young ones to get them to de-stress or relax before bed

Hope you and Lynds have a safe flight home xx

What exactly is your issue with flying? Is it the height? noise?

It can't be the safety record because that's pretty damn good.

yes on both counts , cos i dont know whats going on ......like engines changed noise b4 over the irish channel an i was petrified ,...... I know all about the safety records ,,,,, I thinkits the not knowing they are banking left until you see the ground out of the left window and sky in the right ........

I love taking off and landing, the bit in between is boring.

Have to say though I absolutely hate boats... not to the point where I'm anxious about travelling on one but the memories of what happens when things go awry keep nagging me :?.

Oh BTW

RIP to Aunty Annie................................Altheimers is an awful way to go

why they give you a life raft on a boat but no parachute on a plane ......thats like getting a parachute o a boat
#34
Rip:-(

A little impractical I think to give everyone a parachute.

It's easy to organise something on a boat.. you can't even stand up on a plane without hitting your head unless you're Tom Cruise .
#36
why cant you stand up on a plane???? havnt you got any legs:w00t:

It's called cattle class for a reason. I'm sure if they could push the seats closer together they'd do it in a heartbeat.

Still, you could always jump out of the plane without a parachute............... :)
