I've found these ones on ebuyer but I'm not sure what the difference is between the two, is it that the second one has a remote?

The reviews seem pretty good and after a Goodmans, which I'm lead to believe are absolutely crap at making car stereos, how bad could it be?

JVC are ok. Although they do seem a bit cheaply made in the lower ranges imo.

My budget for car audio is £40 what you reccomend.

You might be able to pick up something like ebay Item number: 330321683443 locally, but tbh the argos deal I linked to is worth paying the extra £10 imo.

I know my stuff and have spent some time fitting audio setups, you really do get what you pay for when you choose a cheap and cheerful head unit.

Good for the cash if you can get one but no mp3 cd support

Hmm the Kenwood one looks pretty good, have you used one of them before or similar?

Not that particular model but I have fitted lots of Kenwoods in my own and customers cars. I think the argos deal is probably the best spec from a reliable make you will find for the money. Argos are also good for you to take it back if you are not happy with it:thumbsup:

I don't exactly have the most amazing speakers so would it still make that much of a difference if I went for budget?
#12
bump :)

I don't quite understand the question.

What do you mean?
#14
Like I don't really have decent speakers, just standard ones that were in my car (Daihatsu Move) when I got it so so would you think going for the cheapest would make much difference in sound?
#15
What you need when powered from the headunit is some high efficiency speakers. Don't go and buy some powerful component speakers as your stereo will not have the power to drive the speaker effectively.

What's your total budget for the sound you want?

Are you looking for direct fit? Would you consider a speaker in the boot/parcel shelf?

Well I just want to replace the head unit really as the speakers I have aren't that bad, I have no parcel shelf and I'd rather keep the boot free as it isn't very big.

basic model, but more than fine if you dont plan to start fitting amps and subs.

I would say though, if you only have standard speakers, and you like to listen to your music loud, you'll be changing them 6months down the line. the kenwood is 4x58w so a speaker of 80w would be better suited. usually standard speakers are around 15-30w

How about this? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenwood-KDC-W4041G-CD-Receiver-External-Illumination/dp/B00143BHYU/ref=sr_1_43?ie=UTF8&m=AAG9N02EI863B&s=generic&qid=1243273581&sr=1-43

Yeah I only have standard speakers and I drive a Daihatsu Move 1999 0.9L, there isn't really anywhere that I can tell to fit extra speakers and there is no parcel shelf.

Just found this too http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenwood-KDC-W4041A-CD-Receiver-External-Illumination/dp/B0012XVGT8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&m=AAG9N02EI863B&s=generic&qid=1243273640&sr=1-8

Seems similar to the other one, just different color lighting but slightly cheaper...

Whichever one matches your illumination on the car?
Not bad for the price imo.

they are pretty much all the same really. As for speakers, sony do a range of oe replacement speakers. Check your local car hifi dealer to see if their is a set for your car, The speakers will make a bigger difference than the stereo.

Ah right so would you say those two are better than the one I stated originally which you said was a basic model?

I think I'll stick with the stock speakers, for now anyway, I'll look into the replacement speakers more in the future, at the moment I just want to be able to listen to music/radio on long journeys.

I think theres some form of car hi fi place in Norwich (my home when I'm back from uni), I'll check it out. My stock speakers appear to be stuck onto my front doors.

Repped :)
