I need a car but I can't decide what to go for.

I've got around £3500 to spend & it's got to be kiddy friendly ie. 5 doors. I don't want anything that's gonna cost me an arm & a leg when it comes to insurance either. So...no Fiat Punto Sporting for me lol!

Any suggestions?

Go look at some Meganes, child friendly, seemily one of the best safety cars out there. Road tax is only £35 a year and should be cheapish to insure :)

Volkswagen Golf or Citroen C4 although a decent used one may cost a little more than your budget.

I'm in the same sort of boat and would really like a megane because 2002 models have a 5 star encap rating and I like them. My dad and my brother say that I am best off getting a focus though because the electrics are less complex and so they are more reliable and cheaper to fix.

Go for a Golf TDI.
You'll save a fortune on petrol and if you get the 130 or 150, they are pretty nippy still too :)
These cars have a LOT of torque
#24
get a clio or fiesta

I bought a vaxhuall meriva 5 door 55place for 4500 in january. only 10,000 miles on the clock from a main dealer. ideal family car. cheap to insure and run. The only downside is that its a bit slow to pull away from lights and roundabuts. Its only a 1400 engine and a fairly big car so thats the snag! The it has three seperate seats in the back so plenty off room. also has a nice big boot.

+1. Fun fun fun! (and practical)

I too would say go for the Golf, they are lovely to drive, room enough for a family and most importantly have some street cred!!!

Thanks for your replies. As much as I'd love a Golf, I don't think I could afford a decent one!

After shopping around, I'm going to test drive & possibly buy a 2004 Fiat Punto Active 1.2 tomorrow. If I do, hopefully I won't have any problems with it! :)

The JFK
If you can stretch your budget a lot I would recommend an Aston Martin Vantage.

I have one and it's great.

Have you put it back in it's little box for the night?

Mummy will buy you some new batteries for it if you are a good boy.

Buy anything, but do not buy a Fiat Punto, they are plagued with problems.

Yes, you will regret buying a Fiat Punto, even the cheaper Fiat Panda's are better, more reliable.

Every time I think I've made up my mind, someone comes along & says something that makes me think twice lol.

Surely they can't be that bad because you always see loads of them driving about :?

I think I'm going to take another look at the Ford Fiesta 1.25 or 1.4 & take it from there!

You see far more in garages, in bits.

Fiesta is a far better bet, or as suggested get something Japanese.

Ok thanks. Well I've decided to go for a Fiesta 1.25.

I've seen an 53 plate 1.25 Finesse which has done just over 30,000 miles for £3892 from Vauxhall or this one which the bloke has said he'll do for £3500.

Obviously it makes sense to get the first one but my dad has bought a few cars from the second garage so he thinks I should consider that one. Seeing as he's the one thats buying it, I guess the final decision is up to him lol :-D
