2 Things wrong with that
1st one;
the N95 is a BB5 type phone and EXTREMELY difficult to unlock, the only way is to replace the software completely with a modded version, invalidates the warrenty and if it ever breaks you wont get it fixed.

2nd one;
if you got it from o2 and it was a contract phone it was never locked in the first place
O2 and Vodafone DONT lock contract mobiles, only payg ones.

Try a different sim in the phone, it may surprise you that it actually works!

Best to try with another sim card such as Vodafone or T-mobile. Your O2 phone should not be locked so try another sim card.

What does the phone actually say when you insert the Orange sim?
I know sometimes orange will deactivate a sim when it hasnt been used for a long time
but I definately know neither O2 or Vodafone lock contract mobiles (apart from the iphone)
Hubby was a phone engineer working fixing the networks whenever they break!

I'm sure its gonna work when he inserts another sim. One time I inserted an orange sim in an unlocked phone and didn't work while other provider's sim all work. I guess orange lock their sim or something...didn't really bother to find out more.

BTW, I'm pretty sure Vodafone locks their phones. Rules may have changed now but for all 6 years I've been with Vodafone, all the upgrades I had arrived locked. However, they would unlock the phone if requested each time.

Oh for anyone that does have a locked phone, there is a fast way to unlock it safely
call your service provider o2, vodafone, virgin etc and ask them for the unlocking code
they will charge but it's not a lot (other than 3 who rip you off and charge £150)
once you have the code all you do is punch it into the handset keypad

What DOES the phone say when you put a sim card in and turn it on?

call O2 and tell them to unlock the phone

its free :thumbsup:

You should be able to get it cheaper than that.

It's surprising how many corner shops do this kind of thing. saw it in glasgow for £5.99, said any phone.

if it says no network then the phone is NOT locked
it's either the sim card is locked, OR the phone has been blocked by the network, and if that is the case then there is no way on earth of unblocking that as they ONLY apply those locks to phones that have been reported stolen.

If your local phone shop charges you a tenner for unlocking a phone that isnt locked then they are ripping you off because that phone is DEFINATLY not locked.

sounds barred to me too

ring orange and ask them to check if the phone has been reported lost or stolen, if it has get your money back as its useless

hi guys, chris, sorry for being rude and i appriciate the help! - my virgin sim came 10 mins ago and it works with no unlocking! - could it be orange who are a bit dodgy? either way cheers to you all and have a good day!

I've only ever unlocked one mobile before and it was a matter of a program of the net that revealed the code for you to put in.

Can you not do that anymore then with newer phones?

2, things wrong with that im afraid...

1, The N95 can be unlocked if it is done properly it will not invalidate your warranty, there is no such modded unlocked software for BB5 phones LMAO... Its a testpoint unlock on the N95 (Normal not 8GB) testpoint unlock means the phone has to be taken apart connections made inside the handset in order to unlock, as said this would not invalidate your warranty if done properly if you find some dodgy place that is willing to do this for £5.99 you will be lucky if they dont kill your phone though :) usual price ranges from £10-£15 depending on the current software version of the handset. For that price though you can usually also get the phone debranded so its like a sim free handset without any of the annoying network logos...

2, O2 PrePay and O2 Contract dont always come unlocked, sometimes if ordering direct from them you may get a handset which they havent had a chance to lock yet, also if you go for a contract from CPW or other company they can give you a sim free phone so it wont be locked, however this is not always the case with O2 phones, some infact are locked :)

However as already said the phone does seem to be unlocked already, its just blocked which means its been reported lost or stolen or the person hasnt paid their contract payments...

If a Nokia phone is locked it will say something along the lines of Enter Restriction code, when you insert another network sim in the handset.

If a phone is blocked then on some networks like Vodafone and T-Mobile/Virgin, it will appear like its working but you wont be able to make any calls... and on Orange and O2 it will display something like Sim Card Registration Failed and give no reception

On Orange it will also give Sim Card Registration failed, if you havent registered the sim card, or if its been turned off as it hasnt been topped up/used for a while :)
