I personally thought it would fail on this point alone....as if the engine warning light is on then isnt there clearly something wrong with the engine?

Just wanted opinions on if you think this should be a failure point or just advisory? Service will be due in a couple of months so going to get it sorted then :)

Engine warning light on......take out bulb/fuse=engine light out problem sorted

Could just be a faulty sensor.

well done! Its such a great feeling isnt it when it passes as you always fear the worse!

Well I posted yesterday about my cars engine warning light coming on - am about to go down and meet someone who has one of these gadgets that will tell me the problem - so am sending you good vibes that both of our engines just have a teeny weeny problem!!

nah, an engine failure light indicates something or some sensor on the engine is a faulty. Nothing to do with the MOT. The engine must be secure, not leaking excessivley and pass the emmisions test thats about if for the MOT.

seriously though as it's obviously running there cannot be a serious
problem with the engine. When you take it for a service ( at the main dealer? )
they will hook it up to the computer and no doubt the light will go out.
Sometimes i wonder if it's just a ploy to get you to visit a main dealer

yeah well I always have taken the car to the dealership and they have screwed me every way possible :? this time i took it to a local garage and it seems thats the way to go.....the EWL has been on a few times and each time has cost me £500+ hence why im not in a rush to find out why its on :p

ahhh right...I just thought that as it is warning something about the engine that it may at least be looked into during the mot lol

as said above....have had the diagnostics done approx 7 times now and each time they come up with a different reason as to why its on...sometimes only weeks apart....the service will not be done at the dealer...i will return to the garage where it has been this morning...they are my new mechanics from now on lol dont see the point in wasting my money been ripped off by peugeot (yes i know......)

Had a similar problem a few weeks ago we took the kids and one of there friends to flamingo land and on the way back a light came on, we drove all the way home to newcastle thinking the car was abought to die on us, (with three kids in the back pitch black and bucketing down with rain) it was no fun. Took it to our local garage he said he had, had a similar problem had spent about £200 replacing some part only for it to happen again. He hooked it up to a handheld computer thing and then put the code in for the light to go out charged me a £5 but said it might happen again in a few months but it doesn't effect the mot and normally only happens when you use the car for motorway driving.:?

yeah the handheld computer thing is having the diagnostics done....each error has a code thing.....if it comes up with something then they can just reset it (which I guess is what they did for you) but I think that when I have been taking it to the dealerships they have been making reasons up as to what needed doin.....hope they reset it for me and theres no actual probs with mine :p

Believe me it works. If you take the fuse/bulb out the light will not
come on at all...........:whistling:

yeah but my point is that whenyou start the car all the lights come on to begin with.....so when they start the car and the light doesnt come on then its gonna be kinda obvious that the bulb has gone :?

I see what you are saying now...........
This is only going to get noticed if you take it to a Main dealer
( which you are not planning on doing!?!? )
It's just a simple (free) way to save you from looking at the warning light
all the time which, despite your efforts to get diagnosed, seems not to point to a fault. :-D

Got my car hooked up to the diagnostic machine this afternoon. Mechanic said cost for that is £25 then whatever the problem is. Expected a big bill but he called to see was a problem with the cataylic converter - which he sorted and total bill was only for the test - £25.

Engine warning light now out - I panicked big time yesterday so am soooooooooooooo relieved!

Would really love a lovely spanking new car but dont want the lovely big monthly repayments on it.

Good luck!
