I just spent 10 minutes surfing the internet and have unlocked my Orange phone. A simple program, found my imea number and your away.

I cant believe these people charge massive amounts of money to do a service that can be found for free!!:w00t:

Really, the program I used to do it has a list as long as your arm that it can unlock

Send me your phone details and I'll give it whirl

Need Phone model number
Imea number (find this by typing *#06# into your phone)
Network

It generates a code that your then type in and you are away

To save people spending a lot of time looking for the Holy Grail free unlock on the web, most phone cannot be unlocked for free.

The above mentioned software covers the older Nokia phones and very few of the current phones are covered. Those that are are generally the sub £50 basic phones.

There are also some phones that can be unlocked with free software and a cable, but this is a little more difficult and quite often a purchase of a special cable is required. And again this tends to be older phones.

MSE has a mobile phone forum where you can ask if there is any free unlocking for your phone, it's easier to ask yourself there than trawl the Net.

As a general rule of thumb, unless it is an older Nokia or a sub £50 Nokia, you're probably going to have to pay to have it unlocked.

This cost is generally added to your next monthly bill if that time has been and gone and you still havn't been charged its probably due to the operator not adding the manual charge  - sometimes incompitance is a bonus

That has changed in the last two weeks, as the standard server can do it, so we no longer have to pay the special server credits. You should be able to get it done for £25 now. Some places that do a lot of the SE phones and buy the credits in bulk may even do it for £20.

If you're on Vodafone or possibly with Three, you can get it done for less.

Pretty much all phones will unlock, it is just a matter of cost. Your phone cost depends on the security level CID code. I have a program that tells you what level the code is, if you want it.

I remember buying a V70(I think) about 6 years ago on a £30 a month contact, Orange refused to unlock it unless I paid the entire years contract up front plus vat and the woman was very rude to me on phone for wasting her time when I said no.

Took it to market and spent £10 and done it lol.

I used this site http://www.unlock4all.com/ to unlock a Nokia 7360.
Superb, completely free, completely idiot proof (I did it having never unlocked a phone before)

Hope that helps :)
