check out this auction, had me in laughs, but so true, again very similar to the auction i put up the other day about using paypal and being scammed, this guys auction was originally pulled because he put 'as new' in the title. A big no no no on ebay nowadays ( i think they call it keyword spamming)..

anyway here it is.

Q: I'm interested in this item but can you confirm that it is in nearly new condition please?
A: Hi, and thanks for your enquiry. I very much regret that I am unable to attest to the relative condition of this item in terms which would see a conjunction of the word "AS" (or even, "LIKE")with a second word made up of three cardinal compass points (excluding the one pointing in the direction of the land mass known as Antarctica.) I can, however, confirm that it is my belief that the item, though pre-owned, is not entirely dissimilar in substance and presentation to that which you might otherwise have contemplated purchasing in the near future at retail price, albeit with the most notable exception that this item is devoid of the original gift message from Mrs TC imprinted with the endearment Woo Woo!! Chuff Chuff!! as well as the Cellophane wrapping to which it was affixed. But as there's already far too much shrink wrap material decomposing here, there and everywhere -- the noxious gases from which are especially detrimental to the land mass known as Antarctica -- you may feel that a possible bid on this item actually makes sense both financially and ecologically. Obviously, it's your decision, and I have no wish to sway it by mentioning here my devotion to saving the polar bear, but if you did proceed, I would certainly endeavour to find the original gift card that accompanied this in view of its ephemeral uniqueness. Thanks again for getting in touch. Woo! Woo! TC.

I'm just surprised Ebay pulled an auction and therefore lost out on the final value fee and the paypal fees.

But i guess they have already took the insertion fee (which probably won't be refunded) and the majority of people who get their auctions pulled this way will just relist it without the "as new" in the title, meaning ebay ends up with an extra insertion fee :whistling:

Pretty sure they refund the insertion fee in this case too.

I support that. People search for "new". "as new" is a bit of a poor description anyway as it is either new or used.

Not at all. I've sold stuff that is pristine, 'as new', recently a Fuji camera. To describe it as simply 'used' puts it in the same catagory as some piece of garbage with marks all over it. As new is a valid description IMO. If an item is pristine, it deserves to be described as such.

Can I just clarify this

are you not allowed to use te words 2as new" or similar at all now in auction listings or just in the titel?

thanks

It isn't new though - it is used in excellent condition. I have no problem with the description in the main text but does not belong in the title. If I search for new I want new.

Search for new in the filter box on the left would be better wouldn't it? "as new" would have have to be listed as used so that would filter those out and loads of people don't put new in the title so searching for new would've filtered those out.
