HL2 was a fantastic fps and Portal was a mind-bending experience; It took a while to get used to the possibilities of the portal gun, but it was great. And so was the fembot - a relative of ASB lol ???

The Orange Box is probably still the best collection of games in history. Half Life 2 is still my favourite single player FPS campaign of all times by some distance.

Why?

I tried it for the first time in the Orange box and it didn't seem anything particulaly special to me, in some respects quite old fashioned and nowhere near the standards of Infinity Ward.

How long did you play it for?

The reasons why I think it is the best campaign by some distance are many, but I'll try to keep it short. It's main accomplishment is the way that it builds not just an excellent story, but an excellent world, that just drags you in in a way that no FPS has ever done for me. Modern Warfare 2, to use your comparison, has an excellent campaign, but it is some way short of Half Life 2. The plot is frail at best by comparison, and whilst the missions are a series of excellent and tense set pieces, they do not create an immersive world. The other main point is that whilst Modern Warfare 2 ticks all the boxes in an emphatic fashion, it lacks true originality in the way that it guides players through the campaign. Half Life 2 guides you through an enthralling world that oozes quality and originality at every turn by introducing truly varied aspects regularly. Modern Warfare 2 does not, it simply does everything that can be expected in a way that shows absolutely quality, but rarely shows true imagination or originality. We are comparing two exceptional games here, so I'm being picky by definition, but for me there is a clear gap in the quality of the campaigns.
