Hi I am really sad this morning as when I let my chickens out only 3 came out. Number 4 Doris-Matilda was not in the henhouse. we think she must have disapearred after tea last night as she was there when my husband fed them at about 5pm. I can't see any sign of disturbance so I think she flew over the fence and couldn't get back in. My neighbour said he saw one outside near the fence last night but thought it was from the local farm as theirs are always wandering about. I have looked everywhere I don't know what to do next???

Thats a good point I will put some food on the outside of the fence to tempt her back. The fence is 6ft tall and they have never flown up that high. she will have flown out by getting on the trampoline first ( not to bounce) then from there she would get on the fence easy maybe I should leave the gate open?

I think she would be a bit scrawny and rubbery for that. She is a rescued battery hen I have had them for nearly a year so she must be about 2-3 years old.

Whether or not there were signs of a disturbance, if the chicken was out theres a fair chance that a fox maybe feeling a bit fuller right now.
Hope you do find her though.

Is this serious? If not then ho ho, very funny. If it is then you're a pillock. Don't you hink the police have more important things to do? And anyway, if you saw a chicken walking long would you pik it up and take it to the police station?

Not a good idea if you don't want to lose your other ones. Not taking the mick ... but the thought of a chicken bouncing on the trampoline and accidentally flying over the fence is funny.

No need to call the Police.

The Chicken Police that are normally all over this forum, will be visiting you to make sure that the welfare of the others is your top priority.

Thanks everyone. Just to report back I have just found her!!! she was in the garden of the local yobs, being chased by a group of teenage boys. I was walking by and could see that they were chasing something and I just caught a flash of her red comb. I went up to the gate to ask the boys if they had seen her and they all ran inside so I just went in and fetched her. She is now safely back in the garden and I have clipped all their wings so we don't have a repeat performance. Anyone worried about the welfare of my chickens needn't they are the most spoilt chickens ever, thats why I can't believe she ran away. They have a lovely insulated house the free run of a garden, they get fed meal worms, corn, spaghetti and tomotoes every day my husband even goes worm digging with them!!!
