I want a new car!!!! What to get?!

I'm after a new car... Something a bit "serious" but still a little girly and fun!!!
I want either a hatchback or a convertible - no saloons or estates!
Cars I currently like are BMW 1 series (but I don't like the interiors), Audi A3s, Volvo C30s and Peugeot 307/207 CCs.
I don't want a Mini or any type of Mitsubishi/Citroen/Mazda.
I'd like low mileage (less than 40k but don't want anything brand showroom new), not fussy about petrol type but want an engine of no more than 2.0 because I currently spend £500 a month on petrol!!
Budget is £12k.
Thank you!

Don't get anything a poor person might drive.

I can recommend VW Golf GTI mk 5. it should be within your budget. I had one for 2 years and loved it, engine is fantastic! I now have a new Merc. C Class which was 30k and nowhere near as much fun.

Hmmm... Not a fan of Golfs... You can spend £10k or £40k on one, and they still look the same to most people, plus the world and his wife has one around here!!

That's really nice, but I'm only 22 and although I've been driving for 5 years, I doubt they'd insure me for any less than half a mortgage!!

I struggle with the insurance, I gave my astra to my girlfriend, put my mum on as second driver to lower the premiums (on the astra) , stayed first driver so i was insured on any other car, put the new car in my girlfriends name, insured her for ALOT less, and now she is insured on the astra as she is insured on any other car!!! bit fiddly but saved a few grand, well worth it!!

The new Fiesta drives like a dream and for your budget you should be able to get a decent spec 2nd hand one.

Your point being? Feel free to name a hatchback that's better looking, drives better and is more reliable.

'Ridiculously good supermini still kicking the **** of rivals that were just a glint in a product planner's eye when it first rocked up 30 years ago (oh yes).'

'Ford gets the blue oval back on top - this is a fantastic little car with a driving experience beyond the class'

Weird, the website says otherwise. Hello?

Well An A3 is just a mk4 Golf... so you pay a premium for a car that's two generations behind!

Who takes TopGear seriously these days?

Fiesta is a great car, Focus is also better than an Astra.

Get an audi a3 tdi 140 or 170.

Remap it, then you've got a quick car too that offers excellent mpg
