Hi,

I have had my sky box for over 7 years and am still paying full price (for all packages) and have no sky+ box.

I want to ring to cancel to see what they offer me. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to get the best deal, or does any one have any simular experiences.

cheers,
geegeeman

Call them back 2 minutes later and say you changed their mind - you were very interested in the Sky 1 Gladiators re-runs! (If only: BBC is best)

Im in a similar situtaion been with them for 7 years and a bit but never gt anything.

Do you think they would offer free Sky+ and installation for loyal customers threatening to cancel and go elsewhere?

I thought you could cancel it in your name, give it a week and then get the wife, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend or pet to sign up as a new customer.

It also depends on who you get on the other end of the phone, they are being very tight lately so you may need to be persistant and call back a couple of times.

I used to do that aswell Miagi, but apparently they have a specialist team now that will allow you to cancel regardless if you complain or not. What I would advise to do is, call them up tell them the length of time you are there and the package that you have been on, then ask them the question is a new customer more valued than one that has 7 years of service. There is a lot of deals now for new customers but nothing ever for honest people like yourself OP. Give this a try and update the thread. Good Luck

with respect, one has to wonder WHY you have been paying full price for 7 years when I thought everyone knew you could get a deal these days...............

What I did was told them my Sky was broke, they tried to diagnose it, couldn't fix it.Tried to charge me for an engineer. Told them I want to cancel if I can't see Sky, went to the Customer Service who immediately offered a Sky Box with free installation.

Best on Thursday/Friday.

off topic slightly, we have been the same with virgin media for 7 years now, yesterday i called up and said our tele package wasnt good enough and they gave me 10 pounds off a month forever and a free upgrade to complete tele (minus the pay channels. but we got setanta) so just say virgin media are doing good deals at the moment you want to stay but feel you are being mistreated..

thanks for all the replys,

Will give it my best shot and get back to you later

:shock:My hubby has just got hold of them at work and said he wants to cancel as BT do a better price and they said 'ok, bye' lmfao

We recently cancelled SKY and they offered us nothing. Now with Virginmedia, £30 amonth for broadband, tv, phone with free weekend calls and a sim card with 300 mins and 300 texts. Seems a great deal, but really miss Sky Sports and News etc!!!!!

ok, heres what i did, I called and was really nice and asked if they could help to cancel my sky as i said ive been set an ultimatum by my partner, Said "ive been told by my girlfriend sky was not worth it and it has to go" They put me through to cancellations dept and i gave them the same story, we had a good joke about being under the thumb (as if!) he said they could slightly lower my monthly rate if we take of 2 mixes ( rubbish ones i never watch) and he said "would a free upgrade to sky+ help me to justify keeping sky?"

Still had to pay £30 conection though!

Just be extra nice but firm, it works wonders!

I recently phoned for my father who has been with Sky for over 10 years but every time he phoned to enquire about upgrading to Sky + he has been told it will cost £199 for the box and £60 installation.
He got a leaflet from Virgin Media in the post last week so I said I will call for him. After around 30 minutes of hanging on, the phone finally answered and very nice chap at the end of the line tried to compete with the offer from Virgin.
In the end, I ended up getting my dad a new Sky + box free and a total cost of £30 installation fee. He stays on his exisiting 2 deal package and gets free broadband base and his calls through Sky Talk. The only thing he had to do was change his phone line supplier to Sky from BT.
Very pleased - although with all the conditions they have to read you at the end was on the phone for over 50 minutes! Glad it wasn't my phone bill!
It just shows that they are desperate to keep your business. We ended up getting a better deal than they are offering new customers at the moment.

I threatened to leave sky 6 months ago, made up some rubbish about virgin plus being cheaper, more kids channels (dont even have kids), better customer service etc etc.....

At first they would only give me sky + and installation for £50, so i said let me think about it...

She then went away to speak to her manager and said that if i could give her an answer there and then, she could give me sky+ and have it installed within 3 days, all for free.

Obviously i played on that i still wasnt sure what to do etc, but knowing i had got what i wanted.

But, i think it all depends on who you speak to and how you speak to them.
I made the woman laugh, had some banter with her etc and it worked for me.

Free phone call, free sky+, free installation all within 3 days. :)

Cheers for this, will give it a go

i think you need to actually ask for the cancellations department, then they will put you thro', and they ask you why-offer you things to stay etc-someone told me they are the only ones with the power to do this, assumed that was true !

Finally done it,

I rang up spoke to a nice bloke who said I had been with them for 12 years not 7.
He offered me a free sky+ box plus and installation free.

SWEET

Cheers for all your help.

I know some people have had better deals, but reading from all your comments looks like i didnt do to bad.

by the way I had to use the 0870 number, and it took about an hour.
