my elite died last night in the middle of fallout3 just one year old. My problem was the screen would freeze after a couple of minutes i tried it again and the same thing happened, only sooner and sooner each time i tried. Phoned microsoft and had to pay £60 because my warranty has (only)just run out (on the phone for an hour to microsoft 'support').
i have to pay because my machine is showing 1 red light. if it showed 3 red lights it would be free and they cant tell me what the difference is!?

isn't there some sort of army group to join to take down these 'cant-make-a-console-that-lasts-longer-than-one-year' lame asses??

have to agree with casper here, wait a couple of days, phone them up and say that you tried it again and it worked for a few hours but froze again but this time it's now 3 red lights, they wont worry and will just send you a replacement.

The towel trick used to be a bad idea as they would refurbish the console you just cooked, but now they replace 99% of the time, you will get a new one back. But i still think just phone them and say it turned into 3 red lights

You would have to achive the 3 red lights tho... they will test to make sure it is the rrod.
otherwise they will just ring you and say it attualy needs a new g/card and you will need to pay £60 to get your console back.

I'm planning on renewing my working xbox360 for a newer hdmi one, I think just spinning the yarn that it rrod's nearly every time after an hour or two of playing might work, I hope. I can't see them siting there playing a game for 2 hours a few times to test it.

once logged a RROD it is supposed to stay like that, but from experience and MS know that the dodgy solder joints in older units, once heated up and cooled can expand and crack, cooling down they touch again taking it till you get to a nice heat for them to expand enough for it to RROD again, then once cooled, you turn on it can be ok, so your story will be fine with them:whistling:
