yep, depends what you want to do with it! . . . . if it has enough software on it to meet your needs, then perhaps.

Sorry I'm a bit clueless about software update on Macs. Does it not work like Windows i.e I'm able to update all the software to the latest version. Also I was hoping to do a format and re-install (again, like Windows) to make a fresh start. Will I not be able to do that then? Sorry if my questions are too basic.

Yes you can do all that. You won't be able to use the latest operating system, Snow Leopard, but you can use Leopard.

Personally I wouldn't buy it as my first venture into the world of Macs. Price is about right as they hold value like no other laptop but I'd get an intel based MacBook.

Nope as it is a powerpc mac, and they switched to Intel a few years back, as far as I know, software is not compatable between the two.

Leopard still runs fine and still supported. Most software should still work on that platform. PPC based Macs will be sought after and supported in some circles for a while yet.

Thanks for your replies. Bit confused now but the more I play with it the more tempted I am. Will try and see if he brings it down to £150. Also, he doesn't have the original installation CDs with him. Can that be a problem?

£150 is more reasonable....G4's run Tiger a lot smoother & faster than Leopard....perfectly adequate first mac for web/email etc etc
