ID Theft - what do we do now?

Hello all.

Yesterday, out of the blue, a Blackberry mobile phone arrived from Phones4U with an 18 month contract - all in OH's name but we haven't clue what's happened!

Why would someone do this?

It has an account number and sort code for the direct debit details, seems to be Halifax but are not OH's bank details, though he is with Halifax too.

Signed up for a free trial with Equifax which shows nothing untoward except the Phones4U contract.

Haven't had to deal with any of this before so we don't know what to do, any help would be appreciated

Thank yous

go to phones4u and explain to them that this is not yours

By the sounds of it they havent intercepted the phone delivery to your husband which is a good thing, otherwise you would be non the wiser.

Contact the halifax/phones 4 u and they will deal with it

May be a Christmas gift that arrived late.

Else, call phone4u and they should be able to tell you who paid for it. :whistling:

i would be keeping the phone myself.

id be tempted aswell if its someone elses account paying for it!

im surprised a company such as phones4u would deliver to anywhere but the registered cardholders address, check your loft for illegal imigrants squatting!

Everything is on OH's name, so obviously don't want an 18 month Orange contract :w00t:

Will contact Halifax, we are worried that they have opened a bank account using OH's details as we also expected that it would have to be the same details for the bank and the phone

We do shred everything so don't know how this happened -OH very rarely using his cards online too
