Going to blackpool tomorrow to see the illuminations. Anything we should do/anywhere we should go first?

Its years since we last went, so all ideas welcome!

Parking is madness when the illuminations are on - my advise is research your parking before you go, stay away from the central car parks cos you will be waiting for an age for a space.

Other than that enjoy

There are a few areas where you could park for free if you can get in. One of the best places to try is if you take the road opposite central pier then do an immediate right turn parking is free & unlimited along there. There are also streets going off there that offer free parking. If you decide to drive along the golden mile you would be lucky to get out of first gear so my advice would be to park up & walk or take the tram. Some of the trams are decked out in lights so will add to the excitement for your kids ( if you are taking kids ).

It's seriously not as bad as it was when i first went about 20 years ago. If you want a reasonably quiet area to stay but close to all atrractions i would choose somewhere like queens promenade.

We went to Blackpool last year, and I have never been to such a dirty, smelly place in my life. We stepped out of the train station and had to navigate our way around vomit and blood on the pavement, I felt like we had stepped into a time warp and were in 1975. We stayed for about 45 minutes and got the first train out again lol.

Quite sad really, we were staying in a hotel in Preston, we had thought Preston was a dive before we went to Blackpool but on our return we thought it had improved considerably.

My ideas for Blackpool involve bulldozers.

park at stargate carpark, the south end of blackpool (on the seafront). parking is the cheapest here. and get train or walk to central blackppool.

freeport in fleetwood is a good out of town designers shopping area. not as good as elesmere port designer outlet though. good for a sunday morning outing.

I guess it could be helpful if people look at this thread in the future. However i have never had to pay for parking all the times i have been up there. It's all about knowing where to look.

The one and only time I went to Blackpool was on a stag weekend.

The only advice I can offer is stay well clear.

Thanks for the advise everyone, thought I posted before I went (when I repped people!) but obviously not! Just got back and had a good time, nice to get out for the afternoon/evening and havent been to Blackpool for at least 4 years

We did that last time, a few years ago, REALLY scary! My dad was first in the line so had to feel his way around, so even worse for him! The girl behind me was that scared that she kept grabbing hold of me (thanks!) and they asked her twice did she want to leave through the emergency doors because she looked really bad!
