Ideas on what to do for my boyfriends 34th birthday

Hi All,

I'm at a loss as to what to do for my boyfriend's 34th on Sunday. We are going to go for a lovely meal in the evening on Sunday (in London) however I'm looking for things to do either on Saturday or on Sunday during the day!

He is a very athletic individual who trains at the gym 4 times a week. Initially I was looking into breaks from Fri - Sun in the country or Paris (neither of us can get time off of work at the moment). Upon seeing quotes of £300+ I quickly dismissed that idea. I've had a look at a couple of experience days (Quad biking sounds right up his street) however not particularly keen on that as I was looking for something we could do more as a couple.

Any ideas? I will consider almost anything and the more original the better so any ideas are much appreciated.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Not very original but i think he'd LOVE to go kartin (even more so if you did it with him).
Why not have a word with a couple of his m8s n arrange 4 them 2 b there as a surprise.
You'd score some MAJOR brownie points 4 that :)

That actually sounds like a lovely idea but I should have mentioned that they (him and all his mates) just very recently went go karting so I think it wouldn't be very original as he's only just been.

It seems I can't win with this bday thing! :(

Thank you Emma - sorry I was torn between categories. Perhaps you should rename feedback to "HUKD Feedback" so there is clarity.

Another couple of ideas .... why not book just 1 night in a hotel (maybe in London if ur going there anyway) for the saturday night?
You could go to a couple of bars up town on the sat night?
Also, an ex girlfriend of mine took me to London zoo on valentines day 1 year.
I would never of chosen to go there but we had a nice day (just the 2 of us) and it was nice that she'd made the effort.
Other things you could do in london are go to a show, london eye, covent garden is also nice with the street entertainers etc.

magough - you do have all the right ideas - the zoo sounds great - BUT - he took me to Bristol Zoo for my bday in January (which I loved). The London ideas are sounding lovely too but I'm still after that something different - he works close to Oxford St so is around that area everyday - I'm really looking for the WOW factor...

I'm very interested in your feedback though so thanking you very much for your ideas.

OK ... buy urself some nice sexy lingerie from La Senza ...... hire a stretch limo ..... then give him a sexy dance/strip in the back of it.
Now he would DEF be sayin WOW to that lol :)

Don't know how broad minded you are but how about taking him to somewhere like stringfellows and paying for a dance for him?
My girlfriend did that for me (wasn't stringfellows tho) and we had a great night lol.

Boxers and Smellies? Hell no! I don't think I'd be forgiven for that!
Still looking into going to Paris for 1 or 2 nights hoping for a late deal so if anyone knows of any offers going please do shout.
Girls Aloud???? PMSL!!!!!
I have never been to Alton Towers and have always wanted to go - however if we did - I think he'd think that was more of a gift for me than him
Nude paintballing??? - ooooh that sounds very very painful.....

We've done the strip club thing before here and in Rio. Granted I didn't pay for a dance for him either times but like I said I'm looking for something for the both of us to enjoy - and that is not it!

you looked at the ferry deals???

This is a little idea...but I bought a little woven box once and put loadsa little things in....massage lotion and chocolate and champagne and sweets n things that he liked, and that reminded me of things...might be good as a little thoughtful addition if you do something normal?

spa day type thing?

Don't get me wrong Magough, each to their own and it sounds nice - I just think stretch limo's are a bit past it (personal opinion only - no judge on others) and a waste of money to go to a destination, have it wait around or come back, and then drive home. I've never been that keen on them and he is a car enthusiast - limo's do not rock his boat either!

However perhaps you need to drop some hints to your girlfriend for your all important bday! :whistling:

Well def not 4 him then.
If he's a car enthusiast, why not do a ferrari drivin experience (or something similar)

Hmm, tbh lil tiger - fitness is his main interest. He used to be a keen athlete, as I said before he goes to the gym quite a bit, he is into healthy eating, training, he just bought himself a BMW 3 series so one of my ideas was to pay for his audio upgrade (he wants ipod connected to stereo via glove compartment) but again he did that for me last year - starting to feel like all my ideas are regurgitated ideas of what he's done for me!

I think my heart was really into the fri-sun weekend break to either Paris, Bath or Cotswold (or somewhere equally lovely) but unless I can find a really good deal it's a no go.

Did check out the ferry deals but closest departure to me is Portsmouth which is 2 hours away. Ideally a St Pancras departure would be perfect.

Hi Chocolatieclaire:)
You could try a double Zorb experience where you can bounce down some hills together. They film the whole experience from inside the Zorb. So you have a neat keepsake of a fun day! They do an aqua version too where the Zorb is filled with water:w00t:

I'm googling this idea and looking at the pics - I'm liking it so far. The coupling thing is there - the adrenalin (which I love is there), it's different, he wouldn't have imagined me planning something like this - so far all the right boxes are getting ticked Kaits!

Just trying to see which site would be most reputable/provide best experience - and also an idea of prices - I can't see how much it would be...

Ah thank you, I found the site and have been checking out prices and location. About a 3 hour drive from London so I'm now looking into hotel accomm for the sat night in Bournemouth so that we are close by. Seems a shame to drive all that way just to do one thing.

Thanks all for your wonderful ideas. I'm loving the Zorb idea plus a nice hotel in Bournemouth which according to G maps is 41 mins away - so any nice but reasonable hotels (ideally boutique) in Bournemouth would be much appreciated!

:-D

I know you didn't like any of my other ideas but there's a lovely hotel i always stay at in Bournemouth. I took my girlfriend (and her m8s) away to Bournemouth for the w/e in March and we stayed there again.
It's called the Connaught and is based on the West Cliff which is useful if you wanna go into the town to a few bars or a restaurant.
The good thing about the hotel is that they have a seperate bit called the Lodge, which is cheaper as it is right next to the main hotel but not part/attached to it. If you wanna stay in the lodge it is cheaper and it's literally 20 seconds walk into the main hotel itself and you can still use all teh facilities and have ur brekkie there.
If money's not tight and you wanna impress ur bf even more, you could do what i did 4 my gf's 30th bday and hire out the suite.
It's lovely and quite reasonable too.
http://www.theconnaught.co.uk/Accommodation/junior-suite-bournemouth-hotel.asp

The hotel also has a leisure suite which includes over 5,000 sq ft of floor space and is located on the lower ground floor in the main building. Unlike other Bournemouth hotels, The Connaught has a magnificent facility which comprises of a large heated indoor 18m swimming pool with adjoining spa, a luxury, fully tiled steam room and top class sauna and two fully fitted gymnasiums - a resistance gym and a cardio vascular gym. It also has an OUTSIDE pool too :)

The breakfast is nice and you get a choice of cereals, fruit juices, yoghurts, fried brekkie and toast etc and it's pretty much eat as much as u like :)

Hope this helps :)

As I said before - each to their own eh? £45 not £75 - thanks for the idea of a hotel - I'm looking into that TOO. :giggle:

I've got some great inspiration now - Kaits - you're a star - and you're way of thinking is right up my street, I've been looking for quality all along - different kind of daytime adventure and boutique hotel is IT, will still stick to the surprise meal I have planned at Gaucho's on Sunday too.

Have a nice day all - enjoy the weather. x
