I live down a "close" of a new build estate. Like with most new build estates, parking has been kept to a ridiculous minimum. We have about ten houses down our road and ten parking spaces so when visitors come around, they have to park further up the road or around the corner.

There is one idiot who lives across the road from the entrance to our road who has recently started putting notes on peoples cars and yelling any people who park near his house. The weird thing is no one is parking directly outside his house, they are on the other side of the road so I can't really see what his problem is.

Anyway, my boyfriend just arrived and had to park opposite this idiots house and as he was walking down the road this guy came out yelling at him not to park there. My boyfriend just ignored him but I am really angry.

It is a public road, no double yellow lines and it is across the road from his house. When he has friends round they park anywhere they like and no one says a thing!

He is still out there now and me and my boyfriend are going out so need to walk back to the car, I know he is going to have a go so I need a response as if I don't think of something to say I will probably just end up yelling at him!

I hate those people who think they own the road :x

Take a look at this website:-

Right, I am going in a bit - IF he does say anything I am just going to say that it is a public road and anyone can park there.
#5
It is a public highway, nobody has any more rights to park anywhere than anyone else.

The neighbour needs to buy a house with a private driveway if he needs to park near his house.

Tell him, glad I have just bumped into you, I have just spoken with the local police who tell me we have every legal right to park anywhere on this road, and have told me if there are any more problems to contact straight away,........ that might shut the **** up...baring that go with thebat option

just because he lives there it doesnt mean he can dictate where anyone parks, unless it directly blocks his access to his driveway, or its actually ON his driveway.

no one has the right to a parking space, inc him.
say if he continues to hassle you or your boyfriend, or leaves notes on your car, you'll report him to the community wardens and if need be, the police for public nuisance

just ask him if your boyfrineds car is casuing him to be unable to remove his car, never a good idea argueing with neighbours, however much you want to
suspended#14
Just ignore him, he will soon give up.

People need to be taught a lesson, rip open his petrol cap, stick a petrol rag down it , set it on fire and hey presto no more car worries. Just the police when they come down and knock on your door :)
#16
Just explain you pay road tax to use the road. And that's what you're doing. Invite him to contact the police if he feels you are doing something illegal.
#17
I'm with everyone else. Even if you were outside his house he can't do anything. We have a similar problem with one of our neighbours who has 2 cars which never move as he bought them only to stop peple parking outside his house...I had great satisfaction in calling the dvla when his tax was out of date!!
I would be very nice to him, it really upsets people when they are angry, and ask what his problem is. be nice but firm. Advise him to call the police if he wants!!!

Oh and my neighbour has a double driveway and 2 garages and doesn't park in / on either of them

Yes, tell him that as far as you're concerned, you have every right to park there and that if he disagrees, he should talk to the authorities. Say either he does that or shuts up, or else you'll be the one contacting the authorities.

+1 at the eric cartman response haha. "wha eva, wha eva, i do what i want."

Although I would never go to the extreme of yelling at/leaving notes, it does bug me when the people across the road park outside my house, as the git has 2 cars on his drive. We end up having to park elsewhere so he can have his 3rd car near his house grrrr.

I wouldn't argue with him, or use foul language, you may find you have things happen to your car., the best response is probably this one, and say it with a sweet smile on your face :-D

But he has as much right to park there as you do.

If you want a reserved parking space, buy a house with a driveway.

I think the OP is going about this the wrong way. Rather than giving a reason for parking there, ask the guy why he is objecting to people parking on the public highway.

Puts the ball firmly back in his court and he probably wont be able to respond (sensibly)

even if he has a drive and you park over he cnt do anything really, he can only phone the police but unless theres a white line which is capped off at either end they wont do anything or if there blocking your car in! had the same arguement with my parents neighbours, who used to put notes on everyones cars even when there parked outside there own houses:x

lmao I have aggro with the neighbours about parking but it tends to go in phases but i'm loving this response defo going to use it next time :giggle:

Ask the idiot what road tax if for!

No need to go over the top just
Buy the cheapest car with tax, mot, insurance. Get a couple of pictures of eyes and tape them to the insides of the windows. Then park the car outside this twits house as long as you can afford it. Set up a video to tape him, when he eventually comes out to damage it and then show it to the police.
just joking. ;-)

we had a simialr thing when my neighbour decided to dump her car directly opposite my house, half on the road, half on the pavement, despite her own drive bring empty.

my gf tried to park outside mine but it completely blocked the road so no one could enter or leave the estate.
tried knocking on the door and asking them to move their car. no answer.

so she parked blocking 1/2 their driveway.
when neighbour returned, cue screaming and slanging match at my GF, then calling the police.
Police inform me that although its not against the law its frowned upon and if we had refused to move the car and allow them access, it could've been towed.
however, blocking a car IN thats already parked on the driveway is against the law.

neighbours excuse to the police was flimsy. her son was due round to see her so she left the driveway free so he could park on it and parked over the road.

I informed the police that the neighbour was on the verge on a mental breakdown since her husband left her for a younger woman, said younger woman also came round and started a fight with the ex-wife on the doorstep, her son shouldnt be driving anyways since he lost his license.
they said "Duly noted" and nothing else happened

Well (unfortunately) he was not there when we went out again so I didn't get to say anything to him, which probably is for the best as I was rather annoyed.

However, I am definitely going to speak to him next time I see him as this has got to stop. It is not the first time he has shouted at my boyfriend about this and he has also left notes on the car on previous occasions. He has also yelled at my younger brothers friends for parking there, he generally seems to pick on people smaller / younger than him as if anyone bigger than him or if people are in groups, he won't say a thing even if he is standing out there.

What a nightmare. When i moved into my last house a neighbour a few days ago, insisted on parking their big white van outside my house blocking all light coming into my house, even though they had parking outside theirs. I finally had enough and told them to move, they still parked their van their but not as much, and then the son who drove the van moved, can get really petty!
